Is a restaurant reception too boring?

I've decided to have my reception at Trevi restaurant in CP. If I do the semi-private reservation, it is within my budget; however, in order to have a DJ, I would need to do a private reservation (which would then be over budget). As much as I would like a DJ and dancing, it won't be feasible. However I am concerned that just having a sit down dinner and drinks (or maybe buffet style dinner, haven't decided that yet) would be boring. Michelle at Trevi assured me it would be fine, but I don't want my guests to travel all this way (some from Australia) and not have fun. I know one of the great things about Vegas is doing something different and unique, and that a lot of people don't go the traditional reception route...I think the stress of planning just has me over-thinking things!

Also, I was originally thinking of doing a strip tour after the reception, so that even though there won't be dancing at the reception, guests can party on a DDB (plus see the sights of Vegas). Would this be a good alternative?

  • I think the DDB would be more than sufficient.  If it was just eating and mingling, I could see it lacking in excitement a bit, but getting everyone out after dinner to go do something together should make it fun for all.

  • We're doing both - dinner at Maggiano's and then a strip tour. We figured everyone would want to take photos in their party clothes, and that way they get to be out on the Strip instead of stuck in a room all night. We got a 2.5 hour option, so it'll be over around ten and then everyone can go out after - our friends can go dancing if they want and the older generation can do whatever they want too.

Personally, I hate dancing at weddings (and kind of in general), so I just wanted to have a meal with everyone, have some wine, and skip dances and speeches and tosses and all that. We are having ours in the main dining room, too, for a livelier atmosphere because I'm only having about 20 guests.

  • I think it really depends how many guests you have.  What is fun and appropriate for 10-15 people will probably be a lot different than what is fun and appropriate for 50 guests.
  • Thank you for your responses!

@vegasgroom Yes that is my fear, that just eating and mingling will be too boring for everyone.

@amelisha I am skipping the speeches and tosses also! Michelle said we could still do a first dance if we want even if there is no DJ.

@angiespartan That's a good point - we are expecting 40 people at most.

I think this will be very fun! :)
  • We had 40 people and had Maggianos for 5 hours. 1st hour was appetizer buffet, mingling, drinks etc, then we had a sit down meal with speeches. We had planned for 2.5 hours of dancing (with an iPod), but dinner and speeches overran so we had about 1hr 45 mins. We then went to Carnaval Court for our afterparty.

I think if you have something fun like the DDB planned for after dinner then people will have a great time!

  • I think the DDB bus is a great idea! I think that and dinner are more than enough.

  • Thank you everyone! I feel much better about this plan now!
  • I am in the same boat! Its great food vs. a more active reception! I don't think a DDB is an option for me with a late June wedding.
  • Hi I was wondering if anyone knows how much the DDB bus is and how I book it thanks
  • @amiexx $445 for two hours with a two hour minimum.

You can book through email or call them. CLICKY.
