Vera Wang Gemma and Pregnant

Hello,

I'll be about 15 weeks pregnant on my wedding day. Do you think the Vera Wang "Gemma" dress could conceal my growing bump? I do not wish to announce my pregnancy till after the wedding but it's been my dream wedding dress! Oh, btw I'm a first time mom to be :)

Re: Vera Wang Gemma and Pregnant

  • my apologies - here's what the dress looks like...i'ld probably use a sash as well. my pre pregnancy dress size is a 4 (if that helps)
  • I don't think that dress would conceal a food baby, much less a real one!  Anything form fitting will not be concealing.  If you're ok showing off the bump, go for it, but if you're looking to hide it then I'd go with something else.

  • What PP said.

That is a form fitting gown and will certainly not hide any type of bump you may have.  So either find a different dress or embrace your growing bump and show it off in your amazing dress.

How far along are you now? Are you bloating? How much have you gained already?

  • Sorry, wasnt finished, and I cant edit my previous post.

Every pregnancy is different. If this is your first pregnancy there is no real way to tell how you will respond. But a few but a few tidbits for you, most women tend to "pop" between 15-18 weeks. I literally woke up one morning and all of the sudden was huge at 17 weeks. No joke it happened over night. And most women's pregnancies tend to be very similar to their mothers. Can you ask your mom what hers was like?

Also, for an alterations stand point, that dress and a baby bump seems like a nightmare.

  • thanks a lot for this. I should probably stick to something else xx
  • If you want something more flexible anything that comes off the hips after the waist is best...liek A line/empire waist etc...that will give your belly room to grow and help to keep it less obvious...
  • If you'll be about 15 weeks pregnant on your wedding day, you must be at least 4 weeks pregnant now to even know you're pregnant, so your wedding is at most 11 weeks (less than 3 months!) away...that's not enough time to order a dress, so I assume you're looking at sample gowns and other dresses off the rack?

Typically the seamstress will do the final fitting a few weeks before the wedding, and you really need to try to stay exactly the same weight for the dress to fit, if it's a fitted dress. Since that's not a possibility with you (you'll be changing size/shape for sure, it's just a question of how much), you need to get a dress that's not too form-fitting. You'll also want to consider the bust of the dress...maybe make sure there is enough room in the dress for your chest plus some substantial inserts at your final fitting, and then if your chest stays the same size just wear the inserts, but if it gets bigger you could switch them out for smaller inserts or no inserts at all at the last minute.
  • I wouldn't count on it, it all depends on how much you are showing by that point.
  • That is the worst dress for bump concealing I have ever seen.
