What am I missing? Ideas?

We are planning our wedding for March 2015. I am not hiring a planner because I think it's a waste of money and I do not work so I have more than enough time to do everything myself. I just don't really know what all I need or needs to be done, as far as decor and stuff. I'm DIYing a lot of things as well, such as our name cards, centerpieces and even my garter. I just feel like there should be more things to be done but can't think of what else to do. Any ideas? Also, any fun DIY ideas would be great!

Re: What am I missing? Ideas?

  • What we DIY'd: invitations, thank you cards, ceremony decorations, reception centrepieces and decor, card box, favours, my shoes (glittered), my headpieces (from my mom's veil), flower girl baskets, and programs.

You've got about the same amount of time we did (started planning in May, married in October), and I work full time, so you've got plenty of time to get organized and do everything you want to do.  Just start by making a really detailed to-do list, and go to town on it.  It was a lot of fun.

  • I DIYed STDs (not invitations because we found some that were cheaper to buy than to DIY and would look nicer anyway). DIYing most decor, the card box, centerpieces, favors, table numbers and escort cards and bridal party gifts. We're skipping the programs and menu otherwise I'd DIY those too.

The best way to start is to make a list of the things you need/want for your wedding, mark the things you think you can DIY and shop around for those things to see if it'd actually be cheaper to buy than to make (supplies vs just buying the item itself).

  • That's my problem, trying to figure out what I need/want. There are a couple of things you both have mentioned that I didn't think about. Thank you for the ideas!!
  • You can DIY all sorts of things. I DIYed flowers for centerpieces. Basically followed these instructions. You can also do your own STDs, invites, programs (if you want them), and all sorts of things. We even did our own napkins. I found stamps with cute romantic quotes and stamped the napkins.
  • You can go crazy DIY your wedding. First you need to figure out your budget because doing small projects can get expensive quickly. Then once you have your venue picked out you can see what your venue will provide and what you feel you may need to personalize the space for yourself. I diy my STD (did postcards - saved $ on postage) and my menu cards. For the Programs and invites I bought kits to diy. Also did used a kit for my escort cards. I used the venue's card box & centerpieces so all I had to get were candles and I used their table numbers. The numbers weren't anything fancy, but they were nice & free. Saved a lot of stress & money using what they had.
  • What I DIY: STDs, invitation belly bands, escort cards w/ holders, programs, jazzing up decor with rhinestones (candle holders and vases), my sister is making my brooch bouquet, menu cards (still don't know about), jazzing up my favors and their tags, table numbers.
