Waterfront Ceremony Venues?

Hello fellow Knotties!  I'm new to the NOLA area, am newly engaged, and am wanting to have an outdoor ceremony by the water.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  I have already looked into Woldenberg Riverfront Park. I know that it won't necessarily be a very "private" ceremony, and that really doesn't bother me too much.  However, when speaking with Audubon Park, I found out that they can't ensure the area to you until a month or so before the event, to ensure no festivals or other big ticket items are planned.  Does anyone know of any waterfront areas(riverfront or lakeside) available, or maybe have heard something different regarding the Woldenberg area?

Also, a big goal of mine for the wedding is to have my 8 year-old pup be the ring bearer.  While I am shooting for something waterfront, I'm not opposed to being landlocked if it means I can have my furball at the ceremony (not necessary at the reception).  Does anyone have any experience with having their pooches in the wedding?  If so, which ceremony site did you use?  Any help with this would be wonderful!  Being new to the area and not knowing a soul is proving to make this quite the challenge!  Thank you so much in advance!!

Re: Waterfront Ceremony Venues?

  • Yes, thank you!  I've already been in contact with the Creole Queen regarding reception. Thank you for your input!  :)

Just trying to iron out the dog situation!
  • I wonder if there's somewhere you could try across the river in Algiers Point?  It might be kind of fun for your guests to take the ferry?
  • Thank you for the suggestions nolabride2015 and mimihankston15!  My heart is more set on having my pup there than being waterfront, as long as I'm in the Quarter.  And thankfully, most venues I've spoken to accommodate dogs!  Love how dog friendly this city is!!!
  • Oh - I just had another thought - doesn't Pat O's have a terrace overlooking the water?  I feel like I've even seen some ceremonies there.  I wonder if you could do it there?  There's also a terrace down by the river there - not sure how many people you have, but maybe you could do a pop-up ceremony and then move upstairs for the reception?

There's another place near the water - it's new - the Jaxson [http://www.thejaxson.com/] - I couldn't see it when I was in NOLA, and I wrote to ask for floor plans and photos and she never got back to me - but you can contact them and see what their deal is - they might have terraces or on-the-water space?
  • Pat O's does overlook the water but I'm not sure if you can do ceremonies there? I have been there for a wedding and they have a balcony with tables that overlooks the water.
Above them is the Riverview Room, hence the name. They also have balconies overlooking the river.
  • Hey nolabride2015!  Thank you so much for your suggestions!! Actually, I have looked into both and both accommodate my dog!  Which, is extremely amazing.  However, both tend to be on the more expensive side.  Since the Jaxson never got back to you, I'll give you what information I've got on both of them!!

The Jaxson is brand new, as in still being constructed on the inside.  They will do a hard hat tour for you to show you everything.  I think the venue is going to end up being really beautiful.  My fiance and I even got to meet the owner who seems very nice.  However, the rental rate for the venue, depending on the date, etc. is between $4000-$6000.  The rental fee includes tables, chairs, house linens, lounge furniture, china, silverware, glassware, and in-house sound systems, plus an onsite sound specialist.  You also have staff included.  However, it does not include food and drink.  The minimum on a beverage package including just beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages is $24.00/person for 3 hours.  The food packages did not include prices on the samples that she gave me, however she quoted them at starting around $50.00 per person, depending on what you pick.  So I guess, minimum food and bar would be about $74.00 per person.  It all depends on what you like, but I know for my guests, I'll also need some house or well brands of liquor so that would bump the beverage minimum to $26.00 for 3 hours.  The wonderful thing about the Jaxson is that they do not have a minimum amount of guests you must guarantee, nor a minimum amount that must be spent on food and beverage.  In addition, you have full use of the patio.  When speaking with her, I brought up White Fang, my pup, and she was more than happy to offer us to use the outdoor patio for free for the ceremony as long as someone came to pick up my pooch afterward.  In addition, the owner had his pup running around during our tour, so I know they're pretty pup friendly!  :)  However, since I have found other venues that include just a bit more (some even including a wedding cake and DJ), and the fact that I absolutely want to do a second line, the Jaxson just appears to be a little more expensive on my end.  However, it is absolutely going to be gorgeous and the sales rep has also been a wedding planner for years so she can be a wealth of information for you!  Her name is Tanya Waller and her email is tanya@thejaxson.com.  Hope this helps!

For Pat O'Brien's on the River....I loved it!  Their wedding packages include so very much, which is amazing (wedding cake, bridal suite, centerpieces, etc.).  However, their minimums for guests are a little on the high side, depending on which area you choose.  Amazingly enough, they also would accommodate my pup, offering for us to do the ceremony in the promenade and then move on over to the grande terrace for the reception, all with Fang included!  However, they do recommend doing a second line after the reception, rather than in between the ceremony and reception, which is what I had my heart set on.  This is due to time constraints (I believe).  They are still a contender in my book, however, another bride had put a tentative hold on the site for the date I was hoping for, so I'm still debating.

I hope this helped you a little bit!  Thank you so much for the information!  I have loosened my sights on the waterfront venue to find ones that not only take Fang, but offer an amazing package as well.  Surprisingly (or not surprisingly if you know the city) there are a good lot of venues that accept dogs.  *happy dance* :)  Good luck planning!!!
  • Thank you, 504Mel!  I have looked into them!  I appreciate the input!!! :)
