Escort Cards AND Framed Seating Chart?

My wedding is about one week away and I have finished the seating chart and have typed out all the escort cards on my template in alphabetical order. I plan on printing the escort card and attaching to a plaid background and gluing on a pine cone (we are having a winter wedding). I did a tester of this and it came out super cute.

I am writing the couple's name together on the escort card (Mr. and Mrs. John Smith) and then if it is a family, writing "The Blackwell Family," so it cuts down on the total number of escort cards needed. My question is, in addition to having the escort cards, should I also do a framed "master seating chart" so people can also look at that as well? Or is that overkill?

I just don't want to worry about anyone having trouble finding their table.

One more question, the wedding is very formal, so I was told I should write the couple's names as "Mr. and Mrs. Smith," if married. Think this is okay?

Re: Escort Cards AND Framed Seating Chart?

  • Do one or the other, not both.  As far as names, I prefer "Mr. and Mrs. John Smith"... Also, I'd be hesitant on "The Blackwell Family".  For family members of the bride & groom that could get confusing because I'd still consider myself part of my maiden name's family...but now I'm also a member of my husband's last name's family.  Am I making any sense? Who knows.  Anyway...I just think it can easily get confusing if you do things like that. :)
  • You don't need a master seating chart if you have escort cards.  If someone can't find their seat by looking at an escort card, having a master seating chart is not going to help them any more.  ;)

Actually, a master seating chart, if it shows the layout of the tables, can be useful in helping people figure out where their particular tables are located in the venue more easily, so they don't have to go from table to table looking for Table 12 or wherever they'll be seated.
  • For couples, I would do "Mr & Mrs John Smith" or just "John & Jane Smith" (i did it this way, but my reception was not extremely formal).  If the couple had multiple children that were sitting at their table, i wrote "and family" under the names.  If it was just one child, i wrote "& Jimmy".  Truly single guests had their own.

I dont' think you need a framed printout also.
