Wedding Woes

Well today is a bust

I thought 6let had kindergarten.  We were going to go to Moms meeting then get some errands done while I only had 2 kids. Then let them FINALLY play on their new swing.

Turns out he doesn't have kinder, which is fine because I think he has strep.  That means no mom meeting because I can't expose other kids.  It's supposed to be nice but it seems wrong to leave him inside watching the other 2 out on the swing.  They already watched a movie this week too.  May need to bust out some crafts.  I hate crafts.

Re: Well today is a bust

  • Boo!  I hate crafts too. I hope 6let feels better soon.

As soon as DH got home last night, I ran out the door to go shopping.  I definitely lingered becuase I just wanted to be alone and on no one's schedule.  When I got home, I started wrapping Christmas presents.  DefConn came in our room this morning and was all, "WHY ARE THERE ALL THESE PRESENTS?!" and "Are they for me?!"  LOL  Also, the Dollar Store is the best place to get boxes and tape for Christmas presents.

I am hitting a wall with housework.  I just don't want to do any of it, but especially not laundry or dishes.  We just have to get through this weekend and then we don't need to worry about having people over until Christmas Eve and then that's only my family.

I'm still not over the fact that it's already December.  My sister's bday is tomorrow and the kiddo's is Monday.  It's all a downhill slide to the holidays and then it's going to be 2015.  I don't feel ready.

  • We have the kids done- 2 santa gifts, 3 gifts from us.

I have all of my nieces and nephew done- thank you black Friday 10% off Target gift cards.

I bought my brother's gift. I have to go to the actual mall for SIL.

We have something Dec 4, 9, 12, 14, 17, 20, 24, and 25 that I need to make food for.  All but 2 are at my house.

  • I only have a few things left to get for DH, something small for MIL and FIL, and one more White Elephant gift for the exchange at the IL's (which I am stumped on...It's not a gag gift exchange, so I need something nice/decent to throw in there...We killed it with our first gift and now we're struggling with the second one).  Everything else is either here or on its way, save for the messenger bags that my friend is making for my nieces.  I have never been this prepared this early. I actually need to make a return on one thing because I bought it and then found a better deal somewhere else.

We just need to get our tree up and decorate.

  • We got out some of our decorations last night.  The living room tree is up and decorated.  I also discovered a 3ft tree that I must have bought last year on clearance, so that's also up.  We'll get our real tree this weekend.

@6fsn - The girls made their own xmas trees yesterday.  I made cones out of poster board and tape and they painted them green.  Once they dried, they used other colors to decorate.  You could use any type of paper and crayons to make them green and stickers for decor if you don't want to do paint.  Now they each have a "tree" in their bedrooms.
  • I've come to the realization that I'm a huge idiot or at least volunteering the great possibility of this.  H and I are moving into our house on the 18th, I volunteered to have my family over for Christmas for lunch.  That gives me 4 days to unpack and plan...and put up decorations, and not kill anyone.  LORD HELP US ALL.

I have purchased exactly zero gifts.  ZERO.  Why buy if I have to move them?  I've probably said this about eleventy billion times to that many people.  Oh well.
  • I think Oface's December is going to be a busy one!

I don't know what I was doing or what kind of shroomed up MMA fighter I fought in my dream last night, but OUCH, body parts hurt this morning. Maybe it was the a-hole cat that's responsible.

  • Borax snowflakes are non-messy science crafts.
But they wont' look cool until tomorrow and a grown up has to do the hot water part.

Ours are drying in the basement.

my new teenage niece is getting books and a gift card, but I can't figure out which.  She likes to read, is currently into futuristic stuff, and has done Divergence and Hunger Games--so I'm open to suggestions.

I'm in late w/ a migraine and working on my day off this week--at least I have all my ducks lined up for the Friday event though.  Pickled Sheep brains are on ice (not literally.  Unless the store-room froze, which is possible.  But theyr'e preserved so they're not super icky) and I went out this morning to buy a butt-load of extra hair ties because the girls forget them at this age and hair + dissections is gross.

  • GB, thank you for that link.  Kids event, FTW!

I'm definitely having a mid life crisis.  Can I just be grown up already and maybe even a smidge elderly?  That's be great.

Other than that, it's the SSDD over here.
  • I'm almost done with DH, but haven't started on the kids.  I usually wait to see what the rest of the family starts sending, and then fill in the gaps:  i.e., if DD has gotten 6 Lego sets and no Playmobils, we'll get her some Playmobils (or whatever).

I also haven't started on extended family, because we have to ship everyone's gifts except my mom's.  It feels sort of random for people to be getting their gifts from us on December 4, KWIM?

DH is home with man-flu today.  I feel badly for him--he's definitely sick, just maybe not quite as sick as he thinks.  He asked me to take his temperature (because he's not qualified to stick a thermometer in his mouth?), and it came back as 98.7.  He was surprised--I think he was expecting something north of 100.  I do think he has a bad cold, but I'm not exactly reviewing his life insurance policy.

Poor Mr. Heffa, he gets no love.  ;) (I am lol-ing at the mental image of his crestfallen face when his temp came back normal...I can see him holding it up to the lamp to make it higher like Elliott in ET.  Ha.)

I'm thankful that DH soldiers on unless he's deathly ill.  When he's deathly ill, he wants everyone to leave him the eff alone for the most part.
  • Poor Mr. Heffa, he gets no love.  ;)
Awww, now you're making me feel bad.  :)  He gets tons of love:  I told him to go home early yesterday, and when we got home from DD's ortho appt, I'd make him tea and keep the kids at bay.  He came dragging in earlier than usual, but well after I told him to forget work and crawl under the covers at home.  And I did make him tea, but he fell asleep before he could drink it.

Still, I scoff at his "flu."  He has a cold, and it sucks, but it's not any worse than that.
  • LOL.  :)  I totally understand your (mild) annoyance.   You get 24 hours and then take some theraflu and buck up
  • I'm in a mood. DH invited his mom, stepdad, and grandpa over for dinner tonight which is fine. But my house is a mess and I have no time to clean (because you know, I have a job) and I need to grocery shop. He was planning for Thursday so that gave me time. And he wants to make steak and crab legs for dinner, which is nice but aint nobody got time for that.

I have most of the kids gifts done. Maybe we are mean people, but we don't get them much. It doesn't matter if we tell the family to get them just small things or give them money for their savings accounts they end up with a mountain of toys. So DS is getting a box of Legos, a Transformer, and a piggy bank. DD is getting one Little People thing and that's it.

In a total first world problem, I think DH is getting me a really expensive gift. And I don't want it. I don't think he's ordered it yet but I made some comments about "I don't really want it" and he was like "your just saying that".
  • What is this expensive gift, Pmeg?  You've got me curious.

I'm thinking fur coat or wine fridge.  I'm having trouble coming up with outrageous ideas.
  • It's a Givenchy Antigona bag. It's been on my list for awhile because I love purses. But the past few years I haven't bought anything really, and I've sold anything expensive I owned because I didn't use it. With two kids, dogs, and a job that I work from home at I just don't need it. It's not practical.

I actually do have a wine fridge.
  • SO PRETTY.  want.to.touch

It really is lovely- just a gorgeous bag and it's very timeless. But given all we've spent this year, I just feel bad. That said, if it does show up under the tree- I will probably sleep with it and make it my third baby.
Which is the only way it should be done.
  • She didn't even bother testing. He has a raging ear infection and he's wheezing. The ear meds would cover strep if he had it.  He's got to do breathing treatments twice a day for 3 days.
  • Poor 6let.  :(
