How long does wedding dresses take to come in?

Hi everyone! I am getting married in September of 2015 and I think I found THE dress, but I feel I might be choosing too early and maybe I should wait until the 2015 dresses, which won't drop until about January, February. The boutiques are telling me I need about 6-9 months to order my dress, which means I should order by this month or next month the latest. I was just wondering what was everyone's experience in how long it took for their dress to come. The dress I am interested in is Cristiano Lucci-Selena, if anyone wants to look it up. Thanks!

Re: How long does wedding dresses take to come in?

  • It really depends on the designer as to how long a dress takes to come in.  When I ordered my dress the salon told me it would take 6 months to come in, but it only took 4 months.

Just know that if you wait to order you may end up having to pay a rush fee or you may not be able to order a certain dress at all.

  • I got married 9/27/14. I started shopping for my dress in January and ordered it that month. It came in I believe in early June. That left me with enough time to do all the alterations I needed to.
  • I think it depends on the designer. I ordered my dress in May 2013 for my June 2014 wedding. It came in January 2014, so it took 8 months. This didn't bother me because I didn't have to worry about it not coming in on time and I did not have to rush to get the alterations done.

  • I am getting married at the end of June 2015. The salon where I ordered my dress suggested I place the order by the end of October to make sure it came in on time and ready for alterations. Admittedly I'm traveling to my wedding location, so I guess it had to be ready mid June. I would ask the salon where you found the dress you love about the latest date you can order the dress and make sure it arrives in time for alterations.
  • It depends on the designer, I'm getting an Allure dress that I ordered at the end of June and the salon said to allow 6 - 8 months (has not come in early), so I would definitely check with the salon about the brand.
  • I'm getting married Oct 17th.  I ordered my dress on 10/30.  It will be in during July.

Granted I went pretty early due to a sample sale but they said it could be 8-10 months at Kleinfelds.  Plus I loved the dress, I didn't want to make myself crazy to keep searching for more.  And for teh record, I thought I had THE dress too that I saw online and it looked awful on me and I ended up with something totally different

  • i had a mori lee dress and it came in two months later mori lee dresses have a faster turn around time. also if the dress is in stock in your size at the warehouse it ships faster if not they have to make the dress and that takes longer.

i know kinefields is good about getting dresses to you in  crunch if needed. but if you want peice of mind order now vs later to insure enough time for alterations
  • The big designers seem to take 6 months. However, there are TONS of smaller designers and many of them seem to be able to make a dress much quicker (lower volume, I guess). My dress is from Theia (which I had never heard of before I went to one boutique that happened to carry it) and their turn-around is 3 months. Yay! Oh yeah, and you'll get a nicer dress for less money too if you go with the smaller designers. My dress was $1400, and very similar ones from other designers were running $3-4k. You're spending for a name, in my opinion.
  • Custom Lazaro: ordered in March or April, arrived in December.

My dress was also Mori Lee! But mine took 8 months to come in. Hmm. I wonder if my dress took so much longer because of the time of year I purchased it, or the lace/bead work, or if it is simply the fact that I live in Canada and that seems to extend the length of time it takes all items to ship here. Interesting!

  • Seems like ordering times are all over the board.  I found a dress that takes 12-16 weeks and they didn't want me to leave the store without ordering it.  Since I want to lose some weight I decided to hold off ordering until March.  I am getting married end of Sept 2015.

  • I agree with everyone else that said it depends on the designer. I ordered my dress in April, and I'm still waiting for it to come in. My belt and veil came in super quickly, however.

  • I'm getting married early Oct '15 and I purchased my dress this past June '14. Super early, but I knew it was the dress. It took five months to come in, but I was told it could take anywhere from six to ten. If you think it's the dress, I'd order it and then stop looking. There are always going to be beautiful dresses that come out after you've ordered yours. If you're not sure this is the dress, keep looking. But I'm with you, I wouldn't give yourself more than two months max. Or depending on the designer, you may have to pay a rush fee.
  • My dress was Justin Alexander and I ordered mine in October and it came in during April. It was discontinued shortly after I ordered it. I recommend if you found one you like you should get it right away, or they may discontinue it.

Yeah, not all Mori Lee's arrive in two months.  Mine was quick, but I know lots of other Mori Lee brides that waited between 4-7 months.

  • Thank you everyone for help! After doing some more research, it does seem that it depends on the designer. It seems like it takes longer for high end designers. It seemed like for stores like David's Bridal, the shipping time is not that long. Just to be safe I, I decided to make a decision and order by January. Thank you everyone!
