Food

This might seem silly but I am having a hard time with food. I really like food. I don't know why this is so hard. The pressure of picking something that 60+ people will like and eat is making my anxiety go through the roof.

I just need to pick two warm entrees and three warm vegetables.

It really doesn't seem hard when I write it out like that. Just go with chicken. But what kind of chicken?! I can't just say chicken. I really like sweet potatoes but does 60+ people like sweet potatoes. Can I just tell my caterer to cook me up a turkey? Thanksgiving food sounds fun. Hah.

Anyway, what would you like to eat? What did you have?

Re: Food

  • If you're really unsure, I might ask the caterer for their recommendations. I think usually people want to pick a mixture of what their guests would like best, and what they (the B&G) like best. Do you or your FI LOVE a particular food? You should include it! Otherwise, ask your caterer what is their most popular entree, and I'm sure they would be happy to give you a few suggestions. I would presume too that they might even set up a tasting so that you can try out your menu beforehand.

  • Oh! And my venue actually offers Thanksgiving dinner as an entree and I'm sure as hell including it as one of my dinner options! I would ask your caterer if a turkey dinner is possible. :) good luck!

  • One possibility might be to do a split entree, between a chicken or beef dish, with veggies, and some type of potato?

  • I am going to second peachy, ask your caterer what their most popular/well liked items are.

For me, you really can't go wrong with chicken.  I tend to like a half roasted chicken because the skin and bones tend to give it more flavor plus leaves it a bit juicier then just a chicken breast and you get both white and dark meat which is nice.  But a carved turkey would be yummy as well

Beef tenderloin is yummy as well or you could go with a pork option like a pork tenderloin or chop.

As for sides, I think sticking to a white potato would be best since I think sweet potatoes is more of a love it or hate it thing.  You could do mashed or scalloped or au gratin or even roasted.

I feel like green beans are always a well liked item.  You could spruce them up with some sauteed onions and garlic.  Or you could do roasted broccoli with garlic and parm cheese.

For a third side you could always do a pasta if you wanted something with a bit more heft (but this depends on what else you are picking) or you could do some roasted carrots if you want to provide another healthier veggie option.

If you could I would suggest having one or two salad choices as well.

    And of course rolls.

  • And of course make sure to talk to your caterer about meeting any dietary needs of your guests...gluten free, vegan, vegetarian, etc

  • This is exactly why we are doing a buffet.
