Thank you cards for Christmas gift or EARLY wedding gift?

We just got one of the items off our registry from my future BIL and his SO.  Should we consider this a Christmas gift or early wedding gift? Do I send a Thank You card if its a Christmas gift? Any thoughts?

You should send a thank you card. Does your FBIL and his SO usually ship you Christmas gifts? If this doesn't fit there normal pattern for Christmas, I'd consider it an early wedding gift (when are you getting married?) But yes, you should send a thank you card regardless since the gift was sent to you.

  • I think anything off your registry should get a thank you, unless it was a wrapped present under the tree for you, and the person is right there when you open it.

It doesn't matter if it was a Christmas gift or a wedding gift, a thank you note is warranted for either situation.

Agree. You don't have to say in the note whether it was a Christmas gift or a wedding gift. Either way, the note will be appreciated.

Agreed.  I'm trying to "bring back" the TY note in my circle and family.  It's just not something we do.  We'll send a quick, "hey, got the thing, thanks" text or email.  But I'm working on bringing back the formal TY note.  Only started in September, so it might take a couple years to take hold, but I'm committed.
