POLL: Help deciding wedding venue-historic theater or baseball stadium

Help! My fiancé and I cannot decide between 2 venues. The first venue is a historic theater where we would have the guests dancing on stage with the band and food in the lobby. The other is a minor league baseball stadium where we would serve ballpark food. They have two very different feels and we can't decide. What are your thoughts?

  • What fits best with your budget?  And when you envision your wedding what do you see?  What feel are you aiming for?  How fancy do you want it?

Answer those questions and you should have a better idea what direction to go in.

  • Both of these sound amazing and like so much fun! I guess it depends more where your interests lie - are you more sports inclined, or theater buffs? Are you looking for a more laid back, fun vibe or slightly more formal? I personally prefer a more elegant feel therefore would choose the theater, but am sure I would love to attend a ballpark themed wedding as well!
  • This sounds like a really personal choice with whatever feel you want for your wedding.

With the theater, it sounds like people might be separated into two different spaces. As cool as the venue sounds, that would be a deal breaker for me.

Yeah, the separation is not ideal.  I went to a wedding where dinner was in a separate room from the band and dancing.  It was a lovely wedding, but it made it difficult to run back to my seat quickly, and I ended up missing the cake cutting because it was in an entirely different room, the band didn't announce it, and I didn't see that it was happening because I was dancing.  So I would consider whether separate rooms would cause an inconvenience for you or your guests.
  • What suits your taste and budget better? Which venue "feels" like you--i.e. where do you both feel most at home?

Personally, I'd go for the ballpark if it were me, because I'm obsessed with baseball, and my FI is becoming increasingly so (a side-effect of living with me, lol). I also know that my family generally loves the sport as well. But, if any one of those things weren't true, I'd have a hard time justifying such a specific theme.

  • We went with the ballpark! We are doing a traditional sitdown dinner then hotdog sliders, popcorn and peanuts passed by the hawkers. Late night stations: chicken wing bar, smores bar, funnel cake bar and sundae bar! I really wanted a fun wedding that people were going to remember!
