Gift for coworker

Hi Ladies,

Question for you. So as you know, I'll be leaving my company soon. I believe this is an etiquette question. One of my coworkers I see as a mentor. I have talked a lot with her. Asked her many questions about work and different projects. We also talk about home life. So I was thinking about getting her a gift to say thank you. I went to this place called L'Occitane and purchased a cute little gift set for less than $25 to give to her. Now I'm wondering, is that too much? Should I not give her a gift at all because it would be weird? We don't hang out outside of work. She is married and has a kid so she spends a ton of time with them and I am single and live 40 minutes away. I want to ask if this is weird or implies something if I give her a gift to say thank you? 

Also, I don't plan on giving anyone else gifts.

    I don't think this is weird at all. It's thoughtful. 

    You value the relationship enough to even consider a parting thank you gift, so I wouldn't rethink that. 

    I would just make sure to present it to her in private. Let her know it isn't a Christmas gift (if you plan on gifting her soon) and express your thanks for her mentor-ship and listening ear.

    I don't think it's weird. I would just make sure to give it to her privately with a note expressing how thankful you've been for her mentoring, so it's clear that's why you're giving it to her. But I think it's sweet. :)

    This. If you let her know that it's just a "thank you" gift, nothing more, nothing less, then I think she'll be really happy to receive it and think it's very thoughtful of you.

    I think it's very sweet.  This probably doesn't apply to you, but I would just make sure $25 doesn't violate company rules about gift giving to coworkers.  I work for the government, and there are really strict rules about that - it usually doesn't apply to the private sector, though.

    So that was the other thing. We can't give coworkers gifts more than $25 or it has to be taxed I believe. I don't know how it works for gifts though, BUT I bought the gift for under $25 just in case of this.

    Also, I will write a note. I didn't think of that. It will make things a bit more clear as to why I am giving her the gift.

    I agree with the other PPs.  It is a nice and thoughtful gesture, especially with a thank you card expressing your appreciation of her guidance/mentorship.

    I think it would be a really nice thoughtful gesture to give such a gift to your mentor by way of thanks.

    Oh my goodness, I know! It feels like we've only just started dating. :-D I still enjoy being around him. hahaha

    I think it's a very kind and thoughtful gesture. I would include in the card and in your words that this is a thank you for the mentoring that she provided and that you clearly appreciate so much.
