A second dress?

Ok so I have my bridal gown that I am so in love with BUT I am concerned that I will not be able to dance that well in it and I love to dance. It's a drop waist gown so it hugs my hips and rear ;) and shows off my curves but since its snug I worry about the dancing. So I was thinking of getting a reception dress something pretty and elegant maybe something that reflects my theme which is 1920s, so maybe flapper inspired? but nothing crazy expensive. Is that silly? Should I get a dress for my rehearsal and wear it again as my reception dress or is that tacky? Or forget about the second dress all together and just get used to my gown? And if I were to get another dress when would I change into it? Looking forward to some input it's much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • Dear caitgar,

If you have time, shop around and see if there is another dress that you like.  As you mentioned you will want another dress to wear to various events surrounding the wedding even if you decide to wear your wedding dress all day.

I have ordered my white, long wedding gown.  Now I am shopping for a white, Tina Turner dress, for what I don't know yet.  Maybe my reception?  I am having a heck of a time shopping for it though since I do not want it to look like a costume and I do not want it to be super short.  I want to wear a new dress/outfit for every occasion the week of the event...but that's just me.

    All the best to you!
  • I had a $30 ivory cocktail dress that I wore to my Bachelorette party brought to the ceremony space just in case I wanted to change. My gown was so beautiful, and the day was so amazing, that I didn't dream about taking off my gown tll it was absolutely necessary. It was nice to have a back up, but certainly not needed and I'm so glad I didn't spend anyextra money on another dress or change out of my wedding dress.

  • Do you have your first dress in hand already? Some of the samples I tried on were a little small and I wouldn't have been able to dance (or maybe even sit). But it seems like a properly tailored dress is going to give you enough freedom of movement to hopefully still be able to dance. (Admittedly I'm not much of a dancer, so maybe I don't know how much movement you need.) For me, I am excited to wear my dress and I can't fathom having a second dress and not getting to wear my beautiful wedding dress all night. But it is not entirely uncommon for people to have a reception dress to change into that allows more freedom of movement for dancing, so do what works for you.
