S/O: Duct tape story?

What in the heck is that story?  I don't want to work Google and I forgot my phone.

I'm envisioning a charity belt made of duct tape.  Which is giving me some serious giggles at my desk.

Re: S/O: Duct tape story?

  • Hah no. It's something like imagine you stick a piece of duct tape to the first person you have sex with. Take that piece off and stick it to the next person and so on until you get married. Every time you take the tape off you leave a little bit of yourself behind. When you get to the last person you've lost some of you're stickiness and what makes you the duct tape you ae.

It's basically if you put duct tape on a surface, it will pick everything on the surface up.  When you go to stick it on a different surface, it won't stick as well and if you put it on too many surfaces, it won't stick anymore.

So if you fuck too many (well, anyone...I guess) people before you get married, your marriage won't stick because you weren't 'pure'.

Did you guys ever read the story that a woman wrote who had waited until marriage to have sex b/c of her religion?  The part that was really sad was that she hadn't learned anything about sex itself, just that "it's bad to have before marriage".  She talks about her guilt about having sex in general even after marriage b/c she (and her husband) had difficulty letting go of the "bad" part.  That made me so angry for her. I also wanted to smack some people for her.  ETA: link:  http://www.xojane.com/sex/true-love-waits-pledge.  I assumed her husband was also a virgin, but the story doesn't actually contain that.

Also, I can only assume the people telling this story have no idea of the naughty things people get up to with duct tape.  :)
  • Huh.  H seems to like my "unpure" self.  But then again, he's a dirty bird too.  DIRTY BIRDS UNITE!
  • I like to think the duct tape leaves behind the little bits of fuzz and gunk that gives it more personality and history.
  • I was just reading something about the Canadian sexual education (don't know how it is in the States), and they mentioned that things like sexual assault and consent are barely mentioned.  We really need to be having conversations about this with our children so that we don't have as many cases as Elizabeth Smart's story.  Honestly, these "duct tape" and "chewing gum" analogies are ridiculous.  Rape is an act of violence, and is not sex for the victim, ergo I say that anyone who has been the victim of rape has never had sex and can therefore still consider themselves "pure" if they so desire.  They are not chewed up pieces of gum - it's so sad that Elizabeth Smart felt that way.  I don't understand victim blaming for rape when there is so much less victim blaming for other crimes.  Some guy gets beaten up in the park, and society cries out about the lack of safety in our parks and how these roving gangs are out of hand.  Some girl gets raped in a park and society asks why she was out by herself.

Sorry, end rant on rape and victim blaming.  As to this duct tape thing, duct tape is one of those things that can really take a pounding, so if anything, using this metaphor promotes that people should sleep around, because the duct tape can take it.

You'd think Elizabeth Smart's story would have made people quit using these sorts of examples.

And Duct tape is, by definition, supposed to be a temporary kludge fix.  If you want it to last, you don't use effing ducttape
In Canada we had this show  called "Red Green", and he uses duct tape to make everything last forever.  So for me I always think of it as a great way to fix something.  I have been brainwashed by the awesomeness that is Red Green.  I recognize the show is a comedy and that duct tape isn't actually like that, but still I marvel at duct tape.

  • I love Red Green and try to watch it as often as possible--it's on PBS here, if you live in the northern states :)

    Duct tape fixes almost everything.

  • (Rolling eyes so hard)  Did I somehow miss something in my alternate reality where human beings don't share any of the properties of either gum or duct tape?  WTF?

Seriously, though, one could make a million pointless analogies for either side of the "pure" coin.  (Directed at the freaks who spout this ridiculousness, not at any one on this board).

Here is mine for the other side of the coin that I literally just made up while reading this post.  Since it's Christmas...pretend virginity is a Christmas tree.  And each person you sleep with adds a little something, a little sparkle to your life much like adding an ornament to a Christmas tree.  So, sleep with lots of people and you will become colorful, beautiful, and sparkly!  Not to mention bringing happiness and joy to others ;).
