having shower and bachelorette party same day?

ok so O just got my schedule for next semester and I only have 1 weekend free all semester long. So my mom was holding onto me telling her the available dates so she can continue with my shower planning.

Now I havent talked about possible dates for the bach with my friends but they too are waiting for my availability.

So, my question is, could it be an option to have both activities on the same day/weekend? or would it be best for the bach to be late in May after my semester is done?

(shower will be April 25 or 26)

Re: having shower and bachelorette party same day?

  • You can. Showers are normally lunch time events, so you'll have a bit to chill before heading out with the ladies. It just depends if A) The parties don't actually overlap. B.) if you actually want to do everything in one day. Keep in mind you could always have something else that comes up that makes that free weekend a OMGIHAVETODOTHIS weekend.

Personally, I'd prefer to have the two events on two separate days. But if you're okay with it and it suits both hosts, go for it.

  • You can but it sounds exhausting for you and the ladies.  How soon after the end of semester is your wedding?  Do you have a few weeks between the two times so you can have the bach. party then? Would two separate dates inconvenience the out of towners? If you do both on the same day, just be mindful not to talk about the bach. party at the shower.  Sounds like you have a super busy life.  Make sure you are getting some rest and are staying healthy.  Enjoy the moments!

I am in medical school, so I basically have no life and little sleep oftentimes. I am from Puerto Rico and its a small island. No one is truly out of town, but now that you mention that I think May would be the better option. I had totally forgotten one of my BM, my cousin studies in Harvard and she probably won't be home on the island in April.

My last exam is on May 22 and the wedding is June 13. So about 2 weeks.

I had totally forgotten about that, so I guess problem solved :)

Thank you so much for the feedback

  • This is what I did. Had the shower then went out to dinner and bar hopping. It wasn't necessarily a "bachelorette", though, because dinner was a bunch of family friends, DH, DH's family and whoever wanted to go bar hopping could go. The bar hopping ended up being the "young people", but it was co-ed and DH even came for a little bit. So maybe it was a "bach", maybe not. I don't know.

The reason we did it this way was because my BMs were scattered over multiple states. Since everyone was in town for the shower, they decided it was a good time to do the "bach".

  • That's what we did for my cousin's wedding - shower one night, and then to a resort town the next night for an overnight bachelorette.  It worked well for me, anyway, because I live away from the rest of my family.

  • Just an aside - I love visiting Puerto Rico, you have a beautiful home!  I just can't get there too often because the food is so amazing that I gain more weight that if I went on a cruise. Even the roadside vendors are as fresh as if an Abuela was in the kitchen 24 hours a day. Congrats to you on everything (medical school, wedding) and wishing you a most wonderful life.

  • I've seen that a few times.   We did it for a friend's party a few years ago and there was some downtime in between the two events.    I can't imagine it turning into a crazy raging event but it could work out to be a really nice night.
  • @LauderdalePink Thank you so much :) Today was my last exam, and I am super tired, but have a million things to do, and can't wait to get into full on wedding planning mode

  • I was a bridesmaid in a wedding for a friend over this past summer and the bride (plus many of us) had very busy schedules so we had both events in one weekend: bachelorette party on Friday night and bridal shower on Sunday afternoon. The bride invited everyone to stay at her parent's house on Fri and Sat night since many of us were traveling from far away and the Saturday in between the events, we kind of just hung out and nursed our hangovers from Friday night haha. It was actually a pretty fun weekend.

  • Definitely! My best friend had a few out of town bridesmaids and wanted to make sure they didn't have to make 3 trips for wedding festivities so we did it all in one weekend and it worked out great! We took a nice break after the shower so the bride could recoup and we could relax and then went out for the bachelorette party that night! It was so fun!
  • You can do the same date, but it would make for a long day. Since you have the option to do it in May, two weeks before your wedding, I would do it then. You'll be able to relax more & enjoy it and celebrate the end of the semester too for everyone in school.
