Nine days until Christmas....

...and I have no idea what to get my mother-in-law.    Help!!!!   She loves craft things and enjoys going to the gym.  She recently got into woodworking and pottery so I thought about getting her a gift certificate for a local workshop she enjoys...however my husbands family is kinda anti-gift certificates/cards.   Any other ideas?  I'm currently at a loss and with only 9 days left - beginning to panic.   (Side note:  my husband is equally clueless on what to get his mom so this is coming from both of us.)

Sorry, no help here. I don't even know what to get my own mother!

  • What kinds of crafts does she like? (Other than woodworking). If you know, can you get her some supplies? As a crafter, I'd be thrilled to get a gift basket full of beads, jewelry findings (earring hooks etc), yarn, ribbon, fabric, needles, thread... all things that you use constantly.

  • My future FIL is a wood turner and his family gets him subscriptions to wood-turning magazines.  Is there an equivalent for wood-working hobbies?
  • Not sure on the wood-working thing - it's more of a new past time for her so not sure...as to the jewelry and knitting, she's not into that crafting per-se.  More pottery and wood and mosaics i'd say?  Thanks for the ideas though!
  • What about books about mosaics/pottery? Could either be a nice photography coffee table type book that she could use for inspiration, or an actual how-to on designs and techniques. Amazon has a lot (along with tool kits/glass nippers/other things she might need to do it at home rather than at the workshop).

OMG. I have so much more to do.

What about some really nice comfy slippers, like Uggs or something?
  • I would say screw the "anti-gift certificate" crap your H's family spews and get her a gift card to that local workshop.  It isn't like you are just giving her a visa gift card to use on whenever, you are getting her a gift certificate specifically geared toward one of her hobbies.

But I also like Lolo's idea about getting her some nice books about pottery/woodworking.

What is her favorite thing to do at the gym?  Lift weights?  Group classes?  Cardio?  If you know her size, new workout clothes are always a nice thing to get.  New water bottle, weight lifting gloves, new workout bag, etc.

Hahaha.  I'm a this point - saying screw it.  Especially as I'd love to get a giftcard, but I also like @climbingbrideNy 's idea about the slippers....could always use a good pair of comfy slippers
  • I haven't done any shopping.  At all.  Have no idea what to get for people.

Every December 1rst all I want for Christmas is it to be over.

  • Y'all I'm excited. FI bought all of his parent's presents (I helped a little. And wrapped them because I decided not to let FI wrap presents after I saw the wrap job he did on mine, hahahahaha) and all us chillens' are pitching in to get my mom her next tattoo when we come back from London and Paris.

What I'm NOT excited about? London and Paris. I have exactly zilch done. No laundry (can't, gotta wear all my clothes between now and Christmas Eve). No packing (can't, laundry's gotta be done and toiletries have to be used between now and then). Shit, I don't even have my packing LIST done yet. I don't have the little adapter thing that will let me charge my phone/use my straighener/bladiblah. I don't have the app that will allow me to talk to FI without putting my phone bill through the roof. I don't have ANYTHING DONE AND IT IS MAKING ME MILDLY CRAZED.

@hellosweetie1015 I can't gif.   But if I could there would be a gif here of someone playing the world's smallest violin for you.  Why? BECAUSE YOU'RE F*CKING GOING TO LONDON AND PARIS!!!!   No sympathy for you - I want your trip!  Make you a deal?  I'll pack all my dirty laundry and skip the chargers and straighteners then take the trip for you, so you can deal with all that is the holidays here.  Agreed?  :-p

  • @hellosweetie1015‌ I have converters. I'll bring them with me when I hitchhike in your luggage.

  • Saturday is the biggest christmas deal to me. FI's parents, brother, and sister-in-law are coming over for dinner and present exchange.

I have to finish painting the kitchen tonight, and we were supposed to put up wainscoting but it's raining and my dad needed his truck. I HAVE to finish painting tonight, and I HAVE to remember to put the ice cream bowl in the freezer and I ABSOLUTELY. FUCKING. MUST. DE-CLUTTER BEFORE I CLEAN THE FLOORS. MUST MUST MUST.

Then I gotta go to Costco and hit the grocery store, liquor store, and walmart Thursday night.

I really need to update my to-do list so that it's all there and I don't forget anything. Sunday is going to be nice because all I have to do is stack wood all day, and it's just going to be me and FI.

  • @lolo883 and @laker2014 I can totally cram you guys in my luggage. We'll throw a party! And I know that sounded pitiful, and I really am soooooooo excited for the actual trip, it just feels like I don't have anything done for it and it's making me absolutely crazy because it feels like I have so so so much to do and it's never ever ever gonna get done. We usually go to NYC and that's something I can totally handle - easy, peasy, I don't need anything special except travel size bottles of shampoo. This is just a wee little bit different, haha, and it's making me anxious.

I also don't have enough matching socks, and I hear they throw you out of France if your socks don't match. XD
