Wedding Dress Help

I am getting married in February and am having some dress issues. I am not having a big wedding less than 25 people in a small chapel. I'm looking into a wedding dress but don't know if I should rent one or buy one. I will probably have to have alterations done since I'm only 5ft 2. Has anyone had any experience with renting a dress vs. buying one?

Have you looked on Rent the Runway? Some of their dresses come in multiple lengths. There is space for reviews, too, so the height/weight of the renter is often listed.

If you are concerned with price, there are so many nice ones that are always on sale at David's Bridal. My friend got one for $99 there and if she hadn't told me I would have thought it was about $800. I'd check those out first, since renting will likely cost more than that.

When I was shopping for dresses, I was looking into renting. At least in my area, I found that renting a dress would've been the same price or more expensive than buying a dress from David's Bridal, which is where I ended up buying my dress. I don't really care a whole lot about wearing a designer label dress though.

As I understand from calling up these rental places and getting information, they rent out expensive designer dresses so if you want to wear a designer wedding gown but can't afford the price to buy one, then renting is a good option. I'd be careful renting a dress though; if anything were to happen to ruin the dress (spillage of wine, rip, etc), it may mean that you have to buy the dress from them anyway. Just read the fine print if you're going to rent a dress. If you don't care for the designer label, I'd suggest looking at David's Bridal or shopping around other bridal stores in your area.

Previous posters are correct. You cannot typically alter a rental. So, if you are outside the "average" height, you probably won't have much luck with a rental. I think even most "short" cuts fit someone who is about 5'5".

I also agree that you might want to check out the Davids Bridal sale collection. They have a lot of nice, simpler dresses that are less than $150.00.
