Calling the waaaaambulance

  1. DS has been sick with RSV since Monday.  He is not sleeping well, and we are exhausted.  Got a breathing treatment at the pedi yesterday, which he screamed through most of.  Now we have an inhaler at home, which he also hates, but at least it's puff, puff, done, not 15 minutes of red-faced screaming.
  2. I am sick--just a cold (or maybe a grown-up case of RSV, since I've been sneezed and coughed on approximately 4000 times this week), but I have basically no voice and a cough that frightens people away.
  3. DH has a sinus infection.  And let me just say, it was a result of his cold, but when I was mocking his man-flu, it was not yet a sinus infection, it was still just a cold at that point.  And then of course when he started to get sicker, as soon as I started telling him to go to the doctor, it was all "No, no, I'll be fine," etc.  So cold = deathbed, actual bacterial infection = NBD, I guess?
  4. So, everyone is sick except DD.  Who was an angel yesterday:  when I picked her up from the bus stop yesterday and said we had to go straight to the pedi, she didn't complain; when DS screamed during his breathing treatment, the only thing that (temporarily) calmed him down was when she sang to him (this works in the car, too).  Then after dinner she totally lost her shit over some Fancy Nancy book, I sent her to bed, and she told me she wished she had a different mommy.  And damn it, I guess because I'm sick and exhausted, but even though I knew better, I still burst into tears afterward.
  5. My mom is coming for Christmas and because of everything going on this week, I haven't given more than 30 seconds of thought to a menu or anything.  I hope she likes pizza...

On the plus side, now that DH is feeling better and I'm worse, he is shouldering a lot more.  When the dishwasher stopped actually getting the dishes clean, he called the home warranty people and got the whole repair call set up; we've started a staggered work schedule (I go in earlier, he goes in later; he drops off, I pick up), so he stayed to meet the back-up babysitter, he's going into the office this a.m., we're both going to DD's class party, and then he's taking her home afterward and wrangling the kids so I can actually get a full day of work in this week.  Even though I mostly just want to lay my head on my desk.

Also on the plus side, we're about due for an upswing, right?

  • Here's hoping for a Festivus Miracle and things start looking up.

  • BOO to all of that.  :(  I hope y'all get some rest and feel better after the weekend.  Being sick for Christmas sucks.
  • I think the last 2 weeks has just sucked for everyone, physically and emotionally.  I hope thing start getting better and you guys get over the hump.  Yay for DH!!!
  • I just felt the need to say that about DH, only because if he actually turned out to have had a sinus infection when he was moaning and taking his 98.7 temperature, then I would feel really awful.  But that developed more recently, over the past few days.

Anyway, I am done with my Christmas shopping, so yay to that.  And I leave for DD's class party in a little while, so that will be fun.  And while I was home with DS, during the stints when he didn't insist on being held, he and I managed to completely rearrange the playroom and it is awesome.  He has a whole big corner with his toddler toys and the foam mat and the low bins for his toys, and DD's art stuff and dollhouse are clear across the room (hopefully too far to tempt him).

Also, his pedi called this morning to see how he was doing.  I'm trying to decide if she called more because she's just an awesome pediatrician, or because his symptoms were more worrisome than I realized.  Let's vote for the former.

DH and FIL still don't have their shit together in terms of who's going where and when, and a) I am not surprised, and b) I don't care.  After Christmas, my schedule is clear, so I can go wherever and do whatever on very little notice.  Plus DH was saying maybe Atlanta, which would be great:  the Georgia Aquarium, Stone Mountain has their Snow Mountain thing right now, last time we took the kids to the Fernbank Museum and they both loved it, and that's just the tip of the iceberg.  (I've heard good things about The World of Coca-Cola, but we haven't been yet.)
  • Our pediatrician's office calls. They called after DD's ear infection this week to make sure she wasn't feeling worse and they called a lot after DS was born and we were dealing with his jaundice. I like to think they are just proactive.

Don't fret about screaming during the breathing treatment - this from my asthma doc - She said - they get it a heck of a lot further into their lungs when they take the subsequent deep breaths that go with the screams so frustrating as it is, you're getting the job done better than if they're calm LOL...  Not easy when they wiggle while screaming though (BTDT!)...

Also DS' primary doc (family prac guy) when I bring him in whenever he's truly sick does usually follow-up with a phone call...  It's great to have a non-hardened to the system doc!!!
