Inclusive San Juan Puerto Rico

Doe's anyone know or been to an all inclusive hotel in San Juan? It looks really beautiful but don't know much about it. If anyone has been here your advice would help thanks!

Re: Inclusive San Juan Puerto Rico

  • Hi there - My husband and I have been to San Juan several times and it is one of our favorite places in the world - we even got engaged there last August! We haven't been to an all-inclusive as we have always stayed at the Ritz (highly recommended) so I can't offer any advice on that front. San Juan itself is very safe compared with other Caribbean locations we have been to, and we have never felt endangered or even uncomfortable. On the contrary, we have met some of the warmest and most welcoming people there.

Old San Juan itself is a beautiful city that is surrounded by two forts abutting the ocean. If either of you are into history, I would recommend hitting El Morro up for a tour. A very cool experience. My husband and I are adventurous people and love to experience new foods and drinks, so one of our favorite things to do in Old San Juan is wander around and randomly select restaurants to grab tapas and drinks, doing a food/drink tour and experiencing lots of new places, then returning to our favorites for dinner throughout the remainder of the week. Mofongo is one of the native Puerto Rican dishes and is one of my favorite foods. You will find many different variations, depending on which restaurants you go to.

Some of our favorite places to go in Old San Juan include:
    - Marmalade: very inventive food and drinks. White bean soup and lobster risotto to die for!
    - Tantra: extensive martini list (maybe 50+?) and Indian food
    - El Batey: a must-see dive bar. Bring a sharpie!
    - Barrachina: our favorite mofongo with a combination of shrimp, beef and chicken. Claims to be the birthplace of the pina colada, but so do a lot of other places in San Juan!

There are also various amazing day trips you can attend while in Puerto Rico. Our hotel offered several, we have done catamaran snorkeling (the best snorkeling we've ever experienced approx. 30 minutes offshore via catamaran), hiking in the El Yunque rainforest, and an amazing kayaking tour of the Biobay, one of the only natural bioluminescent bays in the world.

Clearly I could go on and on but I think I'll stop there... I hope this was helpful to you! Please let me know if you have any questions! Below is a pic I took right before we got engaged... it was at one of the forts overlooking the ocean at sunset.
  • There are no all inclusive resorts in Puerto Rico.

  • There are no all inclusive resorts in Puerto Rico.

This is true. It's a U.S. territory and all inclusives are not legal in the U.S. due to alcohol liability. There are some resorts like Disney that have a food package but not the type like you'd see in the Caribbean that include booze.

PR is very nice though, I haven't been since I was 10 so I can't remember much but El Yunque rainforest is really cool.

  • Hey! I myself live in Puerto Rico and Hotels are my specialty I have a BA in hotel management. Sadly their are no hotels all inclusive in PR, but you can find some nice hotels which include breakfast, welcome drinks and goodies. Since you are coming to PR as a tourist I recommend staying in any hotel in "Isla Verde, Carolina", it is 5 mins from airport, the beach is near all the hotels, they are fast foods and restaurants all around, casinos and these are some of the fanciest hotel in the island. I also warn you the prices aren't cheap since tourism is a big thing here. I also recommend you visit the restaurant "mi casita" (its at Isla Verde also) if you want to eat cheap and good while visiting they have puertorican tradicional food and serve all meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner).

    Good luck!
  • Thanks everyone!

  • @april&amanda

I too am a native from PR and  was goit to say the above, no all inclusives. BUt the island is great and there are many great hotels.

When are you planning to come over to island? How long? How much are you planning to spend on hotel? What do you want to see/do?

There are many hotels in Isla Verde and Condado, as well as in the actual Old San Juan area. I can also recommend checking out Air BnB. Fi proposed during a sail boat ride of the San Juan bay and we stayed at a BEAUTIFUL apartment in calle del Cristo.

  • @JaniV123 I am coming down Feb 2016 and I did find a groupon deal on a hotel that actaully included drinks and food so maybe their is some great deals you just have to really dig for them?
