ffil had a brain aneurysm last night and it's looking like he will be okay, but they will be testing him and keeping him in the icu for a week. My future in laws are a wreck and I'm trying not to be so I can support them. We are hanging out in the waiting room so I'm knotting! I love this man he's been like a father figure to me. Last night was just hell and the roads were awful. Didn't sleep at all. I'm really hungry so tell me about your Christmas dinners!

Update: Seems that it was a subarachnoid hemorrhage. He is about the same as he has been, but he was able to eat and yesterday he was standing up for short periods of time to stretch his back. His pain is supposed to last a few more weeks. FMIL keeps joking that his hospital stay weaned him off beer and wine only to get him hooked on pain meds. FI's Uncle's father passed away last night, and although us kids didn't know him many of this family did (small town). What a shitty end of the year. We did finally get home to do some laundry and sleep in our own beds before heading back to the hospital. He is staying about 2 hours away from our house.

I don't know what we're having for dinner yet but I'm hoping it will involve stuffing and wine :)

  • Oh, wow. I'm so sorry. I hope everything is ok.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I'm so sorry, Larry. Prayers for y'all. H, my brother, and I are on our way to my parents'. I believe we are having enchiladas tonight, and I'll likely make guacamole
  • Oh no! I hope he's OK and you can all rest soon.

Filet and lobster tail here tonight! And these.

    Thoughts and prayers.

Ham dinner with apricot pecan sweet potatoes and broccoli.  I was going to make a pie, but my sister sent five pounds of See's chocolate!

Thank you for your reality check.  I didn't sleep last night, either.  I was stressing over my performance at church.  That seems so petty compared to real problems.

  • Sending out good vibes!

Cold cut sandwiches, chips, pickles, fruit, and pumpkin pir for dessert.
  • All the thoughts, prayers, and virtual hugs.

We are saying to hell with fancy christmas dinner and BBQing skirt steak and zuchini at the park. Bacon ranch pasta salad is ready, meat and zuchini are marinating in the fridge and pecan pie is in the oven.

  • Glad he's doing ok.  Brain aneurysms terrify me cos they seem to hit with no warning.  Hopefully he has a speedy recovery.

We're doing fondue tonight, turkey tomorrow.  We had Chinese last night.  My brother is working nights, so Boxing Day is his first day off to have real Christmas dinner.

  • Sending hugs!!! We are Italian food; antipasto, pasta forno, meatballs.

    Sending positive vibes larrygaga!

We do Christmas breakfast with my family. This entails, wine, minosas, orange nut pancakes, sausage, bacon, chorizo, eggs, and tortillas. For an afternoon snack, my mom served guac and a cheese ball.

H and I are driving home right now. Everything is closed for food, but my mom got me a pasta maker, so we are thinking about making pasta for dinner.
  • Sorry about your scary Christmas Eve. Glad your FFIL is doing ok, praying for good test results.

Prime Rib, roasted asparagus, carrots au gratin, mashed potatoes and home made sweet potato dinner rolls. Cheesecake, sugar cookies and ice cream roll for dessert. It's over, everyone has left and I think we dirtied every dish in the house. I ate too much and am tempted to leave all those dishes for tomorrow.

  • Oh God. I'm sorry to hear that this happened, but I'm glad his prognosis is good!

  • That is so scary, Larry. I hope he is continuing to do better and someone brings you some food!
  • Holy shit, hugs and good vibes.

My dinner is probably going to be something from the freezer. I'm thinking crab pretzel.

    Anniversary
  • Oh my gosh! I hope he's ok. Sending lots of good thoughts.

I made chicken Marsala, scalloped potatoes and roasted asparagus.
  • Wow, that's scary! I'm glad to hear that things look good so far, and I will pray that they stay that way!

We had a pretty decent spread at my parents house: turkey, ham, macaroni and cheese, potatoes au gratin, green beans, salad, and rice
  • So sorry to hear about your Christmas Eve Larry.  Thankful that his prognosis is good and praying for a speedy recovery for him.  Hoping you all were able to get some rest.

We had candied ham, mashed potatoes, corn, peas, rolls and for dessert apple pie, oreo truffles, lemon meringue pie, pie crust/cinnamon bites, or butterscotch haystacks.

We went to FMIL's yesterday, and we had porkchops, mashed potatoes, corn on the cob, and veggies. It was yummy!

  • Thanks for the kind comments and prayers. And delicious sounding dinners!

He was doing better but he took a turn for the worse today. We did have a little breather where he was up and his kids and wife could sleep and eat. Time will tell I suppose

He will be doing more tests tomorrow and should be going home if everything looks good! He will be heavily medicated for about a month and I think he needs regular check ups. We have been sneaking him Vietnamese food and pizza all week, and I baked him his favorite muffins. At first he couldn't eat anything, so it's wonderful to see him eat and begin to walk and see some color return to his face. He still has some pain but not awful.

The nurses were joking that they were going to keep him for research, because what happened to him is usually fatal.

    Thanks for asking.
That is amazing news! I hope things keep going in the right direction.
