Re: Please proofread my invite!

  • You should change the tense.  Invitations are written in the thirs person and yours is in the first person.   I'm also not a huge fan of the 'joyfully invite' but you can keep that in there  - it's not an etiquette issue;

    Jane Smith

    and

    John Doe

request the pleasure of your company

as they are united in marriage

     Saturday, the twenty-fifth of August

    two thousand and twelve

    at five o’clock

    The Publick House

    Garden Gazebo

    277 Main Street

    Sturbridge, MA

    Reception immediately following

  • I agree with PP about keeping the whole invite in the third-person, it starts in third-person so it doesn't sound right switching it to the first-person.
  • Ooops! I had noticed that and thought I changed it before making this post! It should have said:

    Jane Smith

    and

    John Doe

    joyfully invite you to share

the beginning of their new life together

    when they exchange vows

on Saturday, the twenty-fifth of August

    two thousand twelve

  • I don't think you need "cocktail hour and reception."  Just keep it "Reception immediately following."
  • I think I will be crashing your wedding
  • Too bad wedding crashers are uninvited guests so you don't count. Besides, you'd be crashing Jane Smith and John Doe's wedding. haha
