What's up, 2015?

Happy New Year, NEY!

Anyone have any big plans today?

BF and I have the day off together which is pretty awesome (and rare).  At the moment I'm still lounging in my pjs and sipping coffee, but I'm looking forward to getting to spend the day with him after he gets up (he had to work 3rd shift last night).  I should really slip out of the house and go grocery shopping before he wakes ;) but I think I'll let my coffee sink in a bit first!

Re: What's up, 2015?

  • BF and I both have the day off too! However, I did catch his stomach bug so we didn't go to any parties last night and will probably be bums on the couch for our rare day off together. :(

    Happy New Year!

  • FI and I have the day off together as well. I think we're going to work on the Netflix queue and I will probably knit as well. Tomorrow is Dissertation Day for the first time since August, so I'm pretty stoked about that.

    Happy New Year!
  • Happy New Year!

Today is my last day in Idaho visiting my parents, so I'm spending the day doing last minute laundry and packing up all my stuff. I'm really excited to get to see BF tomorrow!

  • Happy New Year!

I also have the day with FI! We are being super lazy right now. In a little bit we plan to go make some Christmas returns at a few stores and then we will work on our registry online at home. All in all, a very easy day!

    Happy New Year!

@WildMagelet, that sounds like a wonderful day :)

@AlPacina, I hope that you feel better soon!

@KeptInStitches a day full of Netflix sounds great!

@bethsmiles I hope your last day with your parents is wonderful!

@500days, yay for working on a registry!

    ********************************
FI also has a stomach bug currently, so he's sleeping/resting at his parents' house. We had plans last night, but he had to stay home so I went with my parents to my aunt and uncle's house. We had lots of wine and played Cards against Humanity, so not a bad NYE after all. I also texted FI at midnight that I owe him a kiss.

Yesterday FI and I did see a venue that is currently our top choice. It is expensive, but it is old and historic and huge, so I think that it's definitely a contender.

We have another appointment with a venue today, but since FI isn't feeling up to it, my mom is going to go with me instead. She is also worried that she won't be able to be in San Diego when I do buy a wedding dress, so I asked her if she would like me to try them on now at David's Bridal while we are together (I figure that I can always order it back in San Diego if I do find one that I like...the styles seem to stay there for a few months at least). So we have an appointment to do that later too.

Then, a bunch of FI's friends are going out to dinner at a local sushi place. They invited us, and I know FI won't be up to eating sushi but I might go still and hang out with them because they are a lot of fun. Anyways, it's going to be a busy New Year's Day for me!

ETA: Also, I promise to cool it with the wedding planning details once FI and I are back in San Diego!

  • @AuroraRose41 - Have fun with all your wedding activities today! Let us know if you pick a venue or a find a dress!

  • H and I are off today - we're both back to work tomorrow (H's first day back in like 2 weeks; I've been back at work this week).

Big huge plans today are:  Go to Target.  I want to look at personal heaters for my cube at work and humidifiers for the house - I have one in the bedroom but both H and I (and the dogs) have dry skin and are all itchy from it.  I also need to pick up a few odds and ends (cereal, kleenex - nothing fun).  After that we're going to the in-laws for lunch/dinner.  We'll probably stay there watch a movie or play some games.  Come home - feed the dogs and probably binge watch Dexter (we're on season 7 - I have to go back and watch the first 1 or 2 seasons though).

  • @bethsmiles I will, but I don't think it is going to happen today honestly. We are looking at venues while we are back in NY so that we don't have to spend money to fly back and do it (and can put that time and money toward the actual wedding itself), but we won't actually make a decision for a little while (probably a few months at least). That's why I promise to cool it with all of the wedding details once I am back in SD!

Also with the dress thing, I want to be optimistic, but I have never had a good experience at David's Bridal in the past, so I'm really not expecting to find anything that I like. However, if I can, then I will definitely be happy! I have tried on prom dresses, bridesmaid dresses, and special occasion dresses (for a black tie wedding), and never have found any that I actually thought fit me well. I really hope that my experience with wedding dresses there is different, but I'm honestly not sure.

  • @AuroraRose41 Yay! Have fun today doing wedding things! Very true, you will have to wait to make any decisions...but don't wait too long as places book up so fast it's crazy. I agree on David's- it came down to the service and quality of the dresses. I went to an independent bridal shop afterwards and I prefer the service and quality...but my David's in MA probably sucks really bad compared to other shops elsewhere.
  • It's a lazy day for H & I we both have off and we both don't have any plans right now I'm watching the twilight zone marathon.,

  • I started my morning with a run downtown, and I, going ice skating with BF and his family, then we're doing dinner with my parents
  • It's a quiet New Year's Day for me...Mr. Historian left yesterday, so I'm sort of moping around being sad. I spent this morning doing the thing where I look at all of my debt and put it in spreadsheets and now I'm sad because I added all of my student loan debt in there and OUCH.  I have to get a handle on some of this before he and I can get married, so that's a new goal.

Other than that, I've been eating ice cream and watching Buffy.  I'm about to start doing some actual work...cataloging research photos and maybe going through a couple of other sources.
  • I am not feeling terribly well on this first day of 2015. I'm worried I'm getting sick, but I'm hoping it's just dehydration. I think Chicago is drying me out; I have to keep applying chapstick and hand lotion, and I'm always thirsty.

We were supposed to go to the Field Museum today but I was so tired, and we had plenty of time to do it tomorrow, so we're just resting in the hotel room till dinner.

@Phira - Oh no! I hope you are feeling better tomorrow!

  • We spent the day together as planned and it was awesome ;)

First, we grabbed some lunch and watched the first part of the Blackhawks game.  Next, we went shopping and bought some a bunch of fitness gear that has been on our to-buy list for a few months.  (Yay Christmas gift cards and New Years Resolution sales!)  I was totally bummed that my new favorite socks were BOGO and there was only one pair left in the entire store.  I also tried on coats, but the styles I liked they didn't have in my size/color.  I'll have to deal with my current coat for now, even if it is a size too big.  (Next year!)  Later, we window shopped for some new dining and living room furnishings.  Nothing worth jumping on, but a few things worth keeping an eye on.

Now we're just hanging out on the couch together :)  It's been a good day.

    P.S. Feel better @phira !

  • Yesterday was a nice start to the new year!

H and I slept in and then went to see Unbroken. It was really good but there was a lot left out from the book. I imagine a big reason for this was due to time, it was a pretty long movie as it was. We had lunch then browsed the outlets. I was hoping to find some sundresses for Aruba since all of my stuff is in storage and I can't get to my clothes but I had no luck.

When we got home, my aunt made ham and cabbage which is one of my favorite meals and something my family eats on New Year's Day every year. H and I continued our SOA marathon until bed. I'm addicted and obsessed.

  • @Phira I hope you are feeling better!

@500days and @bethsmiles, I hate to say that I was right, but the venue was an immediate no and nothing at DB fit me correctly. As for the venue, it was missing a bride with poofy sleeves and an Elvis impersonator! The bar was padded white leather. And it was only $5 per person cheaper than our top pick venue (and that $5 difference includes an extra hour of open bar at our top choice). So that's a no brainer. At DB, I put on a few beautiful Oleg Cassini dresses, but the two that I really liked didn't fit quite right and they couldn't be altered to fit correctly according to the alterations person. I do know what style flatters me the most now at least though, so I have some direction when I go to other bridal shops.

  • @Phira - Hope you feel better!!  Have fun at The Field museum.  H and I really had a good time when we went there but it was HUGE and we were tired by the end of it.  When we went to Chicago for an extended weekend we went to a dinner show called 'Tommy Gun's Garage' and it was quite a bit of fun... we also did 'Medieval Times' which was also fun (if you don't have everything booked).

  • @phira Hope you feel better and enjoy the Field Museum! That's the one place I've wanted to go but last time I was in Chicago there just wasn't the time.
