First Friday of 2015!!

Hello Ladies!!

Any good weekend plans?  Everybody survive NYE and NY?

NYE we went to Hibachi.  I ended up being designated driver so I didn't drink much (basically had few sips of a cocktail while while waiting for dinner and a few sips of Sake).  Everybody else was pretty tipsy.  We got back to H's house - the original plan was to play games but the other 3 decided they wouldn't be able to understand instructions so we watched Sharknado instead (I may have fallen asleep instead though).  We watched the ball drop on TV then H and I went home.

NY I got up - did a load of laundry, watched an episode of Dexter with H.  After that we went to the in-laws for lunch/dinner.  We watched 'Let's Be Cops' which was pretty funny actually.  Came home, got the garbage out by the road, watched another Dexter and then it was Ohio State time.  I went to bed at half-time because Ohio State didn't look too good - but they pulled through and won!

Today I'm HOPING they let us leave a little early.  My work partner is doing a half day today, so chances of me getting out early are probably slim no matter how slow it is.

This weekend the only thing I know I'd like to do is go to Sam's club.  Probably binge watch Dexter if H is up for it - we only have 1 1/2 seasons to go before we're done with the series.

Re: First Friday of 2015!!

  • I'm sad that I have to work today but at least I'm working from home and I didn't have to get ready this morning.

NYE was a lot of fun. We went to a family friend's house for drinks and apps. I didn't drink a whole lot but I didn't get any sleep so the next day I felt icky because I only slept for 4 hours.

On NY Day we went to CrossFit that morning and afterwards met up with some friends for lunch for their birthday. Then that night we went back over to my parent's house for dinner and football. @LaPeanut1018 opened up her Christmas gifts since she wasn't here for Christmas. She got us a monogrammed wreath holder that I'm obsessed with and a Pottery Barn gift card!

Today I'm just working while DH goes to SC to discard our tree and pick up our new desk that SFIL gave us. Tonight I'll probably make soup and relax after CrossFit.
  • Morning! I'm also working and it'll be a full day for me, unfortunately.

I had a really nice NYE and NYD. H and I spent NYE drinking cider, eating buffalo chicken dip and guac and watching SOA. Yesterday, we went to the movies to see Unbroken, browsed the outlets, and then continued our SOA marathon. It was very relaxing and I was glad to spend time with H.

I have a Devils game tonight and tomorrow night. Tomorrow, I'm hoping to go into the city to do a little shopping and maybe see American Sniper with my BFF. I'll meet H when he's done work and we're going to Dinosaur BBQ for dinner before the game. No real plans for Sunday. Probably watching SOA and doing laundry. I'll also probably start getting stuff together for Aruba.

Morning ladies!  I'm working remotely today and its nice to be in my PJs.  :)  H and I went to a crazy nice dinner on NYE.  It was one of those fancy pre fix dinners with an orchestra band and all.  We had a blast even though we were the youngest people there (and at 33 and 38, respectively, that is saying something).

This weekend H and I are picking out curtains (we have someone coming to the house because we need custom drapes due to our windoww size) and picking the piece of our granite slab we ordered that we want on the island.  SO CLOSE to finishing the kitchen!

  • Good morning! I hope the day goes by quickly for all of you ladies that are working today! I'm off today, but go back to San Diego on Sunday and back to work on Monday.

NYE was spent with my parents and aunt and uncle, drinking wine and playing Cards against Humanity. Yesterday I did a ton of WR stuff, but nothing really came of it (ruled out a venue and some dresses). Then I went out with a bunch of FI's friends to an all-you-can-eat sushi place, and FI was actually feeling better and came out with everyone too. We had a great time!

Today, FI called me and told me that his grandfather went to the hospital this morning with chest pain and heart irregularities. FI is staying with his grandmother to make sure she is alright (she has Alzheimer's and is extremely forgetful so she can't be left alone). I told him that I hope everything is okay and to keep me updated or let me know if there was anything that I could do.

  • NYE was nice. FI and I went out to dinner, watched Mythbusters, and had nonalcoholic cider. Yesterday FI and I watched more Mythbusters and generally had a quiet day.

This weekend could be snowy and windy, so FI and I will probably hunker down. My hope is that we can get out for one of the wildcard games this weekend and head down to BWW.

And I'll be the one to say it: I hate it when the federal holidays are in the middle of the week because there is no rhythm to the work week then.

I'm working today...and probably for the whole day too. I wish I had it off. I didn't get a lot of sleep because our neighbors decided that 11:30 was an excellent time to start having chorus rehearsal in their backyard in their hottub. We tried to wait it out but they weren't quitting so H finally had to go outside and ask them to be quiet. I hate being the asshole neighbor but it's just not cool to be singing loudly as a group at midnight on a weeknight.

NYE we went to a neighborhood party and drank and played silly games. I won a ridiculous hat that's camo with reindeer antlers and sings "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer". We watched the Peach Drop (Atlanta) but I was annoyed because the screen was split with Pitbull doing a performance and he sang right up until midnight before someone cut him off for like 30 seconds and there was absolutely no countdown on the screen. It just felt off.

New Years Day I didn't get to sleep in at all because our dog heard people moving around my parent's house so I had to get up with her. We had a late breakfast and then my mom and I went for a 2 mile walk. When we got home I started working on my crock pot mac and cheese and she made the rest of dinner. We had Honeybaked Ham, collard greens, black eyed peas, and of course the mac. Now I feel super fat from all the food and dessert. H and I also opened our Christmas gifts finally. I got a new purse, and some Christmas linens and decor from @southernpeach89, and a few other things! We gave my mom and dad a couple new pots and pans and a photo album from the wedding.

  • Hello 2015 and hello NEY!!!  Hope everyone had a fun New Years!

My new years was fun, possibly a little too much fun.  In my drunken stupor on new years eve, I had enough thought process to take my phone out of my pocket so it wouldn't fall in the toilet, then completely forgot about it and dropped it into the sink.  I didn't have a case on, so the screen cracked and I washed my hands over my phone.  Because of the crack, all the water went inside the phone and completely fried it.  Luckily I was due for an upgrade, so now I have the Galaxy S5.

New Years day is probably my favorite day out of the year because my bf & I both have the day off and no other obligations, so we can spend the whole day together, just us.  We slept in, then went out for breakfast around noon.  It was amazing and I honestly think the last time we did that was new years day last year.  After we finished breakfast we went to the house to finish up the drywall and clean up.  We should be moving in by the end of the month.  :-D  Downside to washing my phone, the photo album I created that was all the photos of the house is gone (it saved to my phone and I didn't know).  So I don't know if I'll be able to share before and after pictures, but as soon and the walls are painted and floors are done I will share lots of pictures!

I'm at work now, and there's about 15 people in the office.  Hopefully today goes fast.  Tomorrow is my niece's 3rd birthday party.  I told her we could have a sleepover tonight, and I think she's more excited for that than her birthday party. She told me we're going to be Anna and Elsa and have a tea party.

  • Morning ladies!

Our NYE and NY was uneventful.  DH and I ordered takeout, snuggled, and watched movies.  Yesterday, we did some laundry, I did a pretty epic purge of my closet, and we packed up a few more boxes for the move.

Today I've got my review at work.  I'm hoping it goes well.  Cross your fingers for me.
  • Morning everybody!

My NYE was pretty quiet...we did all our family Christmas celebrations on the 29th, so none of us were really up for anything big by that point.  I went to BWW with my sisters and mom and watched the Thunder game, then came home and read a book.  I think I was asleep by 12:02.

I'm working today...cataloging research photos and working on syllabi for next semester.  I'm also getting ready for my last major research trip--I have to go to Philadelphia on Tuesday.  At some point, I need to take down the Christmas decorations...although I'm leaving up my Christmas lights because they make me happy and I feel like I need ALL the happy to get this dissertation done.
  • @loves2shop4shoes fingers crossed that your review goes well!  I had mine last week and was nervous until my boss said "Yeah, I have no complaints"

    @loves2shop4shoes Good luck!

I'm at work today. No fun. But I was really happy to have only a half day on Wed.

FI and I have never gone out for New Year's. Not once. Our first NYE together, he traded a walmart shift so he could spend the night with me. He worked the morning, and was exhausted. I watched "too cute" (awww, kittens!) and he fell asleep. Then I shook him awake at midnight to kiss. And then we both passed out. Since then, we've pretty much snuggled and gone to bed around 10:30 every year. No different this year. No complaints here-- I definitely enjoy it.

This weekend we're going to visit my parents, and we're going to our Venue to finalize food selection. I'm excited! We also might do some more ring shopping... there's a jewelery store near my parents that does a lot of custom work (so maybe they'll be able to make me a thing, hand engraved band.) Or maybe something else. I like ALL THE RINGS. It's hard to choose.

And I need to do shoe shopping for the wedding! I can't wear heals, so I was thinking some comfy, pretty flats (or possibly wedges, but probably flats) in a light color. Maybe light pink?

Hope you all have a great weekend!

ETA: By "can't wear heals" I mean... I can't wear heals for very long without walking like a lame duck/ having very angry feet. And everyone knows I'm short. As FFIL said "So, she's not going to try to convince people she's 5 inches taller?" No, no I am not.
  • ps-- I would not be adverse to some pictures of wedding bands ;)
  • @lilacck28 I like the idea of a pink flat or sparkly like THESE.
    image
  • @speakeasy14 YES! That's just like what I had in mind!
  • @lapeanut1018 I watched the Pitbull NYE show and yes I totally regret it....wtf no countdown really? I actually looked at my phone before they started counting down and it was already 12. I felt robbed!

@lilacck28 I bought both wedges and flats for my wedding. I'm just going to see how I feel the day of and have both pairs handy in case I want to switch. Comfort is everything. The wedges are here. The flats are super cheap here.

I have been both lazy and productive this morning. I got up earlier and watched morning TV with some coffee. After an hour of that, someone knocks at the door. I had ordered an office chair 2 weeks before Christmas for my partner at work. She sits in a plastic chair. I let her know that her gift was late and that I would have it after break...she liked the mystery of it, so I was happy she wasn't disappointed. Anyways, It's finally here and I suck at building things (especially like IKEA). I thought about waiting to have FI build it, but I go back on Monday and I don't know if he will be up for a last minute project for me. So I built the chair! I sat in it and jumped up and down in it and it's still standing! It's like a delayed Christmas miracle.

Tonight we are going to the Celtic's game. I'm pretty excited since Rondo got traded to the Mavs, and that's who they are playing tonight. It will be his first homecoming and I expect it to be fun! I'm definitely going to wear my Rondo jersey tonight.

Only 2 more days of my vacation after this and then it's back to work. And then the countdown will begin for the next vacation lol
  • @500days

    You are awesome.
  • Hooray for Friday!

Today is the last full day of our honeymoon; our flight home tomorrow is in the early-ish evening (we hope--it's going to snow tomorrow, so we might be delayed). Unfortunately, resting yesterday did not help, and I am really sick today. We're really pretty stressed about it; we had one more museum to go to, and we both REALLY want to go. J is willing to go without me, or to not go at all if I'd prefer that, but I also really want to go.

We might end up going for only 1-2 hours, so we can see some of the major exhibits we're interested in. I'm supposed to meet up with another friend tonight to see a show with her, but I don't think I have it in me (and the show is like ... 7 miles away).

  •  I'm sorry @phira , that stinks.
  • @Phira - if you're still reading posts, sorry you are not feeling well.  The Field is a HUGE museum (I'm assuming that's the one you're talking about).  When H and I went we had the intention of going right when they opened and staying for 4 hours, we stayed for like 7 hours and just rushed through the last 2 hours.  It is worth seeing though and they do have a movie - it's not very long but it would give you a little bit of a break so you could see a little bit more.

  • @TwoDimes Just sayin ' your feelings on going to the wedding expo are totally on base! Honestly, they are waste of time...ESPECIALLY since you're already booked vendors. They are just super crowded, and not much fun aside from maybe the part of the show where they model dresses.

  • @TwoDimes - shouldn't your weekend plans include posting pictures of you puppy for your friends on the NEY board????

I went to a wedding expo after I got engaged and got ALMOST NOTHING out of it.  I got a couple free canvas bags, some magazines, some candies, got to sample cake and some food - but none of these were going to be a part of my wedding.  I went only because I needed a dress and only knew of 2 boutiques and was hoping to find a travel agent.  I got a lot of vendors calling/emailing me about nonsense stuff.

I say "almost nothing" because I kind of did find my dress there.  The place I bought my dress had it on display and I pretty much knew I loved the dress but needed to try it on to confirm it would be my dress - they also were handing out $75 off coupons, so not a complete bust.  Could you maybe agree to go with her for 2 hours - no more (but maybe less)?

  • I'm also at work all day. NYE was fun. We were supposed to go to a party, but the hosts' son got the chicken pox, so they cancelled. We ended up inviting my baby sister and her family over. I drank 2 whole beers and we played Frozen Uno. It was hilarious because we shit talk a lot when we play. Once, years ago, we made Bean cry during a game...but not from being mean. He was upset that we weren't letting him win. It was hilarious and I have pictures. Anyhow, he's toughened up and not gives it back just as hard.
The highlight of the night, though, was my 3 yr old niece socking her dad in the balls. *sigh* I felt really bad for him. My sister is so stressed out right now and I wish I could help ease some of her tension.
Sister and family left around 10, and then we went downstairs and watched the ball drop. We gave kisses at midnight and then off to bed.

Yesterday we laid around most of the day. Watched some TV, cleaned, and I made a yummy dinner of spanish rice and white chicken enchiladas for dinner with churro cheesecake for dessert. YUMMMMMMMMM!

  • 18 pages today! Woo productivity!
  • @KeptinStitches - I catalogued 250 (and counting) photos and made my schedule for the semester.  WOOOOO-HOOOO DISSERTATION YEAH!

(Luckily, I can have wine while I catalog...)
  • Hi everyone! Pretty new to posting still but would love to try and join in more often so here i go...

I am currently watching Das Boot a (very dry) movie about German u boats in WWII, with FI and future in laws and am surprisingly alert after 2 glasses of wine.

For NYE my FI future in laws and I watched A Hard Day's night and ate pork and sauerkraut (and a lot of other things too) and on new years day I had pork and sauerkraut again with mom and dad. Then earlier this evening went to Penguin game.

@Swazzle‌ how was Unbroken? FI and I have been thinking about going to see it.

@TwoDimes‌ crock pot dip sounds yummy! Do you have a recipe?

@phira‌ Congratulations on becoming an aunt!

    Happy New year
  • @dizzylizzy213 - It was good! It followed the book but there was also a lot missing, I'm guessing for time constraints. I read a review somewhere that it would have been a great miniseries or something for TV rather than a feature film and I think I agree with that assessment. The guy who played Louie was phenomenal.

  • @Swazzle - Thanks!  We did decide to see it last night and we both enjoyed it!  I never read the book, but I may try and find it after I finish the book I am reading.
