New Kitty!

We picked out a new kitty today! DH has been wanting to get a second cat for a long time and our landlord finally said yes so we went to the humane society today to have a look. We submitted an adoption application and are keeping our fingers crossed that we are approved. The kitty we picked is a black domestic short hair. He is super cuddly and purrs really loud. He was born outside in June and has lived with a few fosters since then. He is doing well around people now but kids still make him nervous. His name is Peter but DH is planning on changing it to Rhaegar after Prince Rhaegar Targaryen in Game of Thrones.

We already have a black domestic short hair (female) and DH has no idea how he is going to tell them apart when Peter is full-grown. Peter has a white spot on the front of his chest but I just told DH to flip the cat over and see if it has nipples.

Here's a picture of Peter. He really likes the cat bed so we are going to bring it with us and donate a new one to the humane society.

Re: New Kitty!

  • You could get him a collar?

He's very cute and I'm very excited for the new kitty addition!

  • Yay!  Congrats, he is so pretty.  Does this little guy and your other cat have different eye colours, face shape, or other body traits?  I'm sure you two will get used to telling them apart though, like parents of twins :)

  • Aw he's so cute!

The nipple thing won't help-- male cats have nipples, too.  But most cats wind up with different body sizes or face shapes; I'm sure you'll be able to tell them apart.

Is anybody else really mystified about the male nipple thing on animals, too, like worse than humans?  Humans have all kinds of weird shit left over from evolution but it seems to me that animals should make more sense.

  • D'Oh! He was all "scratch my belly" today and I didn't notice nipples so now I feel silly.

They have the same eye colour and face shape but girl kitty has giant ears and licks your hand when you pet her so we should be able to tell them apart. They also have different

So I felt so stupid when we brought our (male) puppy to the vet for the first time. I asked what the little round brown bumps were on his stomach. Oh those are his nipples, oops! I never noticed nipples on our old dog growing up, so I thought only female dogs had prominent nipples.

  • When I adopted my black kitty, Isis, the lady was trying to give me all the reasons why I should. I was like...sssshhh, she's mine, where's the papers? She even tried following me out the doors the first day. It was so hard waiting to hear that she was "really" mine. 10 years later, she still follows me around. Good luck on your new awesome fur baby!
  • SO CUTE!! I want to come over and snuggle him. Agree with PPs, I bet you will be able to tell them apart. Are both of their paw pads black? Kitty was a grey/white tuxedo and had a mix of color on her paw pads.
  • Awww, he's a cutie! Good luck with your new baby boy!

  • You should totally change his name to Rhaegar! That would be such a bad ass name for a cat. My boyfriend and I named our second kitten Ripley after Sigourney Weaver's character in Alien. Ripley loves to snuggle with our faces, but obviously we couldn't name her Face Hugger haha!

Congrats on your new kitten, he is quite handsome. :)
  • Oh my Bast he is adorable. My cat biological clock has been ticking like crazy but I have to wait until summer when I move. I demand lots of pictures.

  • Congratulations on your new kitty! He looks so cute! I love your name selection as I'm a huge GOT fan myself.

If he ends up being naughty, though, you should change his name to Balerion the Black Dread.
