Personal Growth!

Many of you know that I love to travel and I've been a ton of places. Well, DH is not interested in travel and would be happy to just stay home for a week. But I can't live without travel, so I basically drag him on these trips, make him contribute to their cost, he complains the whole time but does it because he loves me.

I'm not sure what it was, but something finally hit me how selfish I have been. I've been spending a lot of our money on trips over the years and keep telling him that he can't have things he wants because they are frivolous. How hypocritical, since a vacation is quite frivolous. So, I let him go buy a brand new truck that he has been drooling over for years. He and I both in a million years never thought I'd let him get one this new/ expensive but he is over the fucking moon about it and I feel really good about finally letting him have something nice that he wants!

  • Aaaw that's great! Congrats on the new truck and I hope you both enjoy it.

I totally feel you on the whole "selfish self-realization" thing. Sometimes I have to check myself with my FI and have some 'come to jesus' moments with myself just to make sure I'm not behaving like a third world dictator.

No, small town. He only drives 9 miles to work, I drive 40 so I'll keep my small car.

  • Nice! FI drives a silverado in the same color. At first I didn't understand the point of having a big truck (we live in the city and he rarely hauls anything) but I've now grown to love it. Congratulations!

  • @blabla89 That was my thing! I kept saying we don't have a big enough driveway to plow, we don't have a farm that requires towing anything, we really have no reason for a truck at all. And the fact that they cost $15k more than a car blew me away. He's been fighting me for years about getting one so this is a huge deal haha

  • I pay for all of our travel, so i tend to make it about myself. I'm obviously trying to change that, hence, why we're going to Monkey World and the Tank Museum.

Thankfully, our finances are separate, so he really doesn't have much say in my car shopping either. I'm a sucker for a nice car!!

    Oh ok good.

It's a pet peeve of mine when people live in a metro area and get a giant truck.

I'm from a small town and recently moved into a metro area, so it really bugs me. Like, who do you think you are even fooling? Do you need that truck to drive to your office job with your nicely paved roads?

Everyone in detroit has an F150, I swear.

  • ^^^ lol.

I'm in Los Angeles and see SO many Hummers and 350s. Plus seeing all the corvettes stuck going 10mph in traffic is just sad.

There are two types of people. People who think hummers are stupid and horrible and 12 year old boys.

    *****Edited for lack of boxes*****

Not everyone who lives in a metro area works in an office. And even if they do, maybe their weekend hobby is camping or off roading or some other thing where a truck is nice to have.

  • I felt terrible after I got another car in October. It was my 2nd brand new car in 2 years. I really felt guilty that H was driving a 10 year old truck. Well 4 days later the transmission started to go on his truck so back to the car dealer we went. He was sooooooo excited. As much as I was dreading another car payment it was worth seeing how happy it made him. Guilt has gone away (for now)
