Alterations at Davids Bridal

HELP!!
So i got my dress at DB and now have made an alterations appointment for April, but from all the post and people i talk to everyone says they are super expensive, but i dont have a clue of where to take it instead...I live in LA and can take it here or somewhere in Orange County. What I need done is:

Corset back
hemmed
change the neck line
bustle

Does anyone have pricing or recommendations for alterations??

Re: Alterations at Davids Bridal

  • Post this on your local board as well. I would also Google for suggestions and reviews. DB is ridiculously overpriced on alterations.

  • Don't go to DB... In addition to Addie's recommendations, check out Yelp for reviews in your area.
  • David's Bridal is very expensive (in my opinion), I found a lovely lady to do my alterations for about $60, DB quoted me $150 just for the hem (lace)! Definitely get recommendations and see if they have somewhat of a portfolio that you can see.
  • I had my dress altered at DB. I had it hemmed and an under bustle (22 point) put in. It was an all lace dress so they had to hem and bustle two separate layers. It was a little over $300. Hopefully that gives you an idea of how much all of the stuff you need done will cost.

  • In addition to cost considerations, see if your local store gets good feedback for quality of the alterations.  From what I see on here, the quality can be hit or miss.
  • Try searching on your local board. I'm sure there are some great, reasonably priced seamstresses in your area. Make sure you use a seamstress who has plenty of experience with wedding gowns.

  • I honestly didn't think that were that expensive, but the with the detail of my dress I was worried with taking it somewhere else. I figured the seamstresses at the store have probably worked on my model of dress several time before so they should have no problems changing doing what I needed done (convert zipper to corset & do a bustle that tucked under). My theory is that if they did something to mess up my dress, it would be easy to make them take responsibility for it & replace the dress too. Now if my dress was more simple I might have tried to find a local seamstress who could do it for less. But for me, due to the details, why not trust women who have worked on that dress before.
