Including Children When Addressing Envelopes?

I'm trying to organize my guest list and I have a lot of family members with children who I plan on inviting to the wedding. Do I include the children's name when addressing the envelopes? If I am supposed to do this and the children do not have the same last name (say relative is a single mom but children have Dad's last name), how do I word that? I also want to add that most of these children are age 10 and younger.

If you have an inner envelop then no you don't have too, you can just put their names there. If you do not have an inner then you should add their names.

If you have inners then I would just put the kids first names. Only outer then use their last names.

So it should be something along the lines of:

Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane Smith

Emily and Jack Smith

?

I've also seen "and family" - is that ok? Or "The Smith Family"

ETA: This is when just using outer envelopes. And thank you!!

The purpose of the inner envelope (or the outer, if you only have one) is to convey exactly who's invited, and "Family" can be a little ambiguous. It's a safer bet to list out the names of those invited. The way you wrote it above is correct, but (IMO) it's also fine to leave off the children's last name.

If you're using inner envelopes, you need list invited children only on those. The outer envelope only needs to be addressed to the adults in the home who are invited.

But if you're using outer envelopes only, everyone in the household who is invited, adults and children, need to be listed on them.

Not to thread jack, but I've actually never heard of this before. Our inner envelopes (to put the reply cards in) just have our address printed on the front. This may be a stupid question but where do you write everyone's names? On the back?

The man should never be separated from his last name.

So if you want to include the wife's first name then it is...

Mrs. Jane and Mr. John Smith

As well, "and" is only used to join couples. Non-couples should be listed on separate lines:

Mr. and Mrs. John Smith
Miss Emily Smith
Master Jack Smith
