Stressing out! Question about Rock 'n' Roll Marathon / Music festival

Hey Ladies,

I am starting to stress out because I just found out that during the date I have booked my wedding  (Nov 15, 2015) there is a big marathon/music festival for which it seems they somewhat shut down the strip for.  Has anyone ever been to vegas during this event that can confirm this for me.  My biggest concerns are to do with hotel prices and availability during this weekend as well as will I be able to do a photo tour on the strip, as I had previously planned.

Thanks :)

  • You will have problems depending on time

Here is the pertinent info FROM LAST YEAR which I would assume will be very similar to this year:

    More details:

    Be Aware. Plan Ahead.
Drivers are HIGHLY encouraged to adjust travel time within and around the race course, as traffic on rear roads become very congested after Las Vegas Blvd is closed.

    Interactive Road Closure Map

This map outlines the road closures, highlights alternate routes and provides access information for popular destinations which will be affected by road closures during the race. Google Maps does NOT take into account the road closures on race day. To request assistance with alternate directions please contact the Rock ‘n’ Roll marathon community relations team by completing the community contact form.

    Road Closures

Most road closures and detours will be in effect between the hours of 2:00 pm and 11:00 pm on Sunday, November 16. Between 2:00 pm and 3:00 p.m., Police and event personnel may implement a soft closure along the entire race course. The streets will reopen on a rolling basis as soon as the last participant has passed and all course support materials have been removed. Streets along the earlier miles of the route will open earlier than roads along the end of the route. Please review the road closure grid and course map for more information. Residents and businesses located near the race course are urged to plan ahead and to be aware of road closure schedules and alternate access routes.

  • The strip and downtown access will be closed on Sunday- that's the big day for the marathon and half. You shouldn't be too inconvenienced on Saturday with the 5k as far as the streets are concerned (maybe 4 hours to set up, prep, run, walk, and shut down) around Circus Circus and the convention center. A strip tour on the main strip shouldn't be a problem. However, hotel rates are a different story. I would lock in a group rate as soon as possible.
  • Correction! Street closures in that Saturday area will only be closed from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. http://runrocknroll.competitor.com/las-vegas/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/lv14_5KMapandGrid-small.pdf
  • Hmm well I think I may need to re think my choice of wedding date since I did pick the Sunday for that weekend.  Hopefully I don't run into any problems with my venues with this.  Thank you for the information guys!
  • I've done the race the last few years.  They start shutting the strip down around 2pm and it stays closed until the race is over around 10-11pm.

It depends on what you are doing for your wedding.  A photo tour won't happen on Sunday.  If you wanted to do everything at one venue you probably wouldn't notice much.

Hotel prices through the marathon website are actually pretty decent if you book early.

Also, this past year they did a 5k near SLS on Saturday night, not much trip congestion, but the monorail was a mess!
We had our dream wedding at Mirage on May 3, 2014!
