RSVP- Online & Card w/envelope options

For those of you who have done or will do online RSVP, have you used both methods? Online RSVP for the internet friendly people and Card w/envelope for the non-friendly internet users? Has this method worked for you?  I am trying to SAVE MONEY by doing this. My FI wanted to do only Online RSVP but I suggested we do both because not everyone uses the internet and some of our older relatives don't even use a computer. Plus for those who are more traditional I would like to send them the card option also.  Thoughts? Suggestions? Good Idea? How did this work out for you?

  • Well if you do both then you really aren't saving money are you?  You can't just guess or assume this person will online RSVP while this person will use a card.  You need to present both options to all your guests and let them decide how they would like to RSVP.

And depending on how formal your wedding is going to be an online RSVP could make your guests think your wedding is far more casual then you intend it to be.

  • My friend is doing online RSVP with a phone number as a second option for the non tech savvy. The phone number will be a Google Voice # so she doesn't get people flooding her regular cell phone with calls. She is going for a more informal feel so this works for her.  I agree that having the card option as well won't save you any money.
  • I'm providing both options to all my guests. I wouldn't have bothered with the online option if it weren't already part of my wedding website (squarespace). I'm hoping more people mail their RSVPs because I think that's going to be easier to track. If they respond online, then it emails me and I'll have to flag the email and remember to update my spreadsheet.

  • Does The Knot offer an online RSVP option on their personal wedding websites?

I've heard terrible reviews about The Knot's online tools. Like, losing all of the guest list data, RSVP info, etc. I personally wouldn't rely on it as the only place to store that info.

  • We had both options and the online RSVP was more of a headache than it was worth. We needed people to put their entree choice and most forgot. We had to follow up with most of them.
  • Thank you for all the advice. I have decided to do both. My future SIL used the online RSVP only and it worked well for her. She had no cons except with the older folks; which I have decided to send an actual card for them.

BTW: I am using weddingwire for my website.
