Your guests doing Hair/Makeup

I wanted to know what you all think about asking a guest to perform services for the wedding. Should I just let them enjoy themselves in  Vegas? I have a friend who is a hairstylist and a relative who is a MUA. They are already coming to the wedding (they are not in the bridal party). I'm familiar with their work and would feel more comfortable hiring them. Any thoughts?

Re: Your guests doing Hair/Makeup

  • If you are hiring them and planning to pay them, that's fine. I always caution people about this, though, as it can sometimes ruin a relationship if things don't go as planned (you hate your hair, they get offended, etc). But, if they're someone you know well, like their work, and can afford their rates, then go for it.
  • I would agree with PP. Sometimes it can be really tricky. We have had lots of friends offer services and we have politely declined and said he wanted them to enjoy the day. Mainly because if something goes wrong or I don't like something, I don't want to have to tell my friend or relative that. To me, it complicates things more than I would prefer on the big day.

    Exactly this.
