Wedding Woes

Giving the finger to old man winter

Brrr!!!  I hate winter.  I think I hate it more than 100+ temps in the summer.  Negative temps are the woooorrrssst.

My mom said she'd come get the kiddo if school was called off today.  They have a delay, but they haven't called it off yet.  They have about 30 more minutes to do so.  A lot of other districts are closed.  I will drive him to the end of the driveway if they do have school...It's too damn cold to be out there for even 5 min.

Work continues to suck for DH.  We did have a good chat last night as I was scratching his back before he went to bed (at 8:30p). I know things are bad when he's not interested in viewing the NFL playoffs with anyone (we usually have friends/family over and/or go to a party).

This week can suck it.

Re: Giving the finger to old man winter

  • I'm so over the kids being home. They cancelled school here at 5pm.  I was planning on snuggling in and doing nothing, but M2 is complaining of ear pain so we get to go to the doc.  The time of that appointment will plan the day.

MIL continues to be a drama llama.  FIL asked to take the kids Saturday night so we said yes.  She's jealous and being a butt. DUDE, you shoot don't every day we are free because sFIL is helping his brother with a paper route or you have a haircut.

I have awesomeness planned for the next 3 weekends: this one is kid free home expo, dinner, and whatever.  Next weekend a friend from BFE is coming to town. The following one is Bunco.  We had an interesting person come last time so we're doing a private invite this time.

100% agreed on the temperature thing.  That was part of why we moved down here:  I would take a month of 90+ degrees over even a week of subfreezing temps.  I hope for the kiddo's sake school is called off.

Today can suck it, as far as I'm concerned.  In addition to our extreme (for here) cold, DS was up at 4:30 and dozed, but I never went back to sleep.  DD was cranky as all hell--I think being off her vacation schedule is starting to catch up with her.  Everything was drama this morning, and when I told her to get in the car, she gave a tear-filled goodbye to the cat that would have made Casablanca proud.  Got to work and found that the cleaning people locked me out of my office, and the maintenance guy and the plant manager weren't even in yet.  Some dude I've never seen before eventually showed up and let me in, for which I was very grateful.
  • The temp is exactly the same as it was yesterday, but school isn't called off.  I'm keeping the kids home, though.  The closest I can get DD1 to her school still leaves her with quite a walk to the doors and I just don't like it.  People are losing their minds about the schools not canceling/not delaying.  Someone even asked if sending their kids was optional because they think the weather is too cold.  Really, people?
  • I think I've lost it this week.  Barbie's copyright on FB and your description of your daughter's goodbye to the cat have done me in.  I cannot stop laughing like a loon.

Also, because I had to go into Starbucks for my coffee, I saw this cherry oat bar thing.  I got one.  Now I'm sad I have only one.  If my windows hadn't been frozen shut, I wouldn't have went in and saw this thing.

    Suck it winter.

I had not seen that yet.  Holy holy, I am snorting like a crazy person over here.  Now that's something I'd pay $10k for.  (Princess of Thorns 2 or whatever, not so much.)

When DD was bidding farewell to the cat for the next 10 hrs (9.75 of which the cat will spend sleeping), DS was looking at her, DH, and me like "WTF is happening here?  I'm so confused!"  Join the club, kid.

On a brighter note, I ate pretty well yesterday, flossed, did 30 minutes on the elliptical, read to DS, and probably did some other good stuff.  ETA:  the interstate construction is finally done and the new lanes are open.  My trip home, which used to take 40-ish minutes on the back roads and would have been close to an hour via the highway, took 25 minutes.  I practically danced into DC.

Last night's event went really well.  I spent a lot of time laughing and talking my face off.  Our refrigerator saga continue (I haven't talked about this and maybe, someday, when the fury, hurt and desperation of the refrigerator saga wear off, I will), so DH was stuck at home.

I have a lot of work to do today.  I finally was able to get a couple of blocks out of the way, so now I can focus back in to getting some stuff shipped out of my office.  And tomorrow, I move into my very own sweet spot of work heaven away from loud co-worker and with a DOOR!!!!!!!!!  I haven't had a real live office of my own in years.  Hell, I might even bring some pictures or decor of some sort.

I'm excited for this weekend's show.  Plus, I want to test drive a few marshmallow recipes...if the refrigerator saga is over.

ETA:  I love the "goodbye for meow" cat story.  :)
  • Last night was less painful for me and PF getting into bedtime. Though she gouged a chunk out of my cheek and then got upset/cried enough to puke after I told her "no." Face-time with H helped her a little, I think.  She slept through the night and only woke at 4:50am, but she self soothed herself back to sleep and I was able to stay in bed.

I've been having all kinds of messed up birthday party dreams this week. I'm so ready for this to be over. And I still have to figure out how we're going to get my 90 yr old grandma to the party since my ILs are apparently driving our nephew (whose parents are coming to the party too, so why can't they drive him?) and won't have room/it'll be too long in the car for the kid (I call coddling bullshit).

Anyway, it's Thursday. It's really freakin' cold. I'm done.
  • Where are these brilliant stories, people (cat farewell and copyright?)?  I am needing some pointing fingers.

Today is cold, but not negative temps (without windchill).  So I'm here at work AGAIN, busting through random stuff, AGAIN.  Though I'm avoiding calling a subcontractor to tell him we won't pay him $$$ for work he billed us for less than a month ago.  Sorry dude, we haven't been paid, thus you don't get paid.  But then again---maybe I can ask first...even though I was scoffed at.  So....I hate making bad phone calls.

And now it smells like someone cooked tuna.  YAY?

The copyright is on FB, O.  In bacon's thread.

So this is not a good time for me to complain about the warm dry weather making my allergies go nuts?

Well, that is frustrating since you can't take the good stuff.

    Also, image
  • I am still taking my Zyrtec, it is considered safe, but the Santa Ana's still suck. DH and I both woke up congested and coughing.

Or if by good stuff you meant all the wine and booze? Because yeah, DH was drinking last night and I had a small sad. :(

  • The stupid warm dry air from our furnace is giving us all nose bleeds.

Yay for Zyrtec!  Boo to the Santa Ana's and no drinking.  :)

    But still... image
  • PS @jojobrn...We ARE seriously considering a trip back to San Diego in early October.  And we're trying to stay for a week, andplusalso we'll probably rent a car...so...possible GTG?  ;)
  • @jojobrn - Santa Ana's in JANUARY?! That's weird.
  • Yeah! If this baby sticks, I will be on maternity leave still, which means I could attempt to do stuff!
  • I'm OK with just holding said baby while the bigger littles play.   ;)

Yeah, short 3 day one, but still up in the 80's! 2014 was the hottest year on record for CA according to NPR/PBS this morning.

And it was the hottest ever (on record) for the earth as a whole, which is scary.

    SITB

The cat one was less of a story and more of yet another example of my kid living for drama.  But do follow the directions to the FB/copyright post, which is pure awesomeness.
  • Well, +100000 points for reading comprehension and not following through.  *sigh* I will read with relish and pay attention to....SQUIRREL!
  • are tubes and option for M2, 6?
  • That has not been discussed at all.  She's really only had a handful of them in her life so I don't think it's so bad.
  • Quite honestly - I don't complain about winter so much because A) My allergies are in check this time of year... B) No yard work every other week to suck up a day of productivity..  and C) There are only so many layers I can remove and still be out in public in the summer...

That said - we haven't gotten a snow day out of these negative temps unlike every district around us. The kiddo's school has the attitude of "We're paying to heat the building in the winter whether the kids are here or not, we'd all rather be in school in January and not June!"  That said - I'm ready for the balmy 20 degree temps and this negative can't go do anything outside because it's TOO cold temps can have the double-birdie solute!!!!  That said - I thought about planting some bulbs in a planter for the fun of it...

  • @6fsn i want to know what happened at bunco last time.
