Wedding Invitations & Paper

Escort card question

I haven't made a final decision on the menu yet, but I think there will be 3 or 4 choices of entrees, and my restaurant's catering menu says I am supposed to indicate my guests' choices at their seat. (I'm going to email guests prior to the wedding to ask their choice). I am thinking about putting a sticker on the escort card to indicate this--like a cute cow for steak, a chicken for chicken, a carrot for vegetarian, or something. Is this dumb? I think it might be weird for a formal wedding, but mine's casual.

Re: Escort card question

  • What about putting it on the reply card where they can check if they want chicken or fish etc?
  • I think that sounds like a good idea.  This most important part is that the servers can see who gets what so another idea is to do color coded escort cards as well (yellow for chicken, green for veggie, white for meat, etc, etc).

  • What about putting it on the reply card where they can check if they want chicken or fish etc?
I am sure OP is going to do this.  What OP is concerned about is making sure the servers at the wedding know who picked what.

Except she said she's going to email guests to ask about their choice.
  • Yeah, I don't think she's putting it on the reply otherwise she wouldn't be emailing guests.  OP -- don't email guests.  Please put it on the reply card.  Leading up to your wedding you aren't going to want to deal with the mess that will be.

Every plated wedding I've been to has had colored seating cards so the server could easily see which meal goes where.  Most of the time if the color is, say...blue.  The card is blue with white/black writing for one meal, or a white/black card with blue writing for the other option.  A small sticker would be challenging for a server to see, especially in some venues that are a bit more dimly lit.

    Oops, missed that.

OP, why would you email people their preferences?  Just ask for it on your reply card.  I just couldn't imagine having to deal with keeping track of RSVPs and then having to contact everyone to ask for their meal preferences.  Easier to just do it all at once through the RSVP card.

  • Email is because the RSVP deadline was before I made a decision on the menu. It's a small wedding though, so I'm not terribly concerned about having to email everyone.

It does sound like going with colored cards instead of stickers might be a better plan. Thanks!

  • I used these stamps I got from Paper Source: http://www.papersource.com/item/Menu-Set-Rubber-Stamp/2901.010/871306.html I put them in the back of the cards, though, not the front. I checked with my caterer first to make sure they would be okay.
