Drink ideas for dry wedding?

What it says on the tin, really! We're having a dry wedding.  I don't know what to serve, how many options and how much of each!

Help?

Re: Drink ideas for dry wedding?

  • Soda, water, iced tea, and lemonade pretty much covers it.

How many people are you having? Are you planing on buying cans or 2 liter bottles? People generally consume 1-2 drinks an hour.

  • Ditto KatWAG. If you want, you could have a featured "mocktail" but it may be more trouble than it's worth.

Are you DIYing the drinks or do you have a catering company? If you have a catering company, just tell them what you want and they can figure out quantities - its part of their job.

Call me stupid, what's soda? English soda is fizzy water.

    <80 people.

We intend to buy small (250ml) glass bottles of coke & lemonade along with pitchers of iced water, but we're looking for a couple of fun, family-friendly drinks on top of this.
  • Please make sure you have some sugar-free drinks as well, preferably beyond just water. We've gone to lots of dry parties where there's tons of fun stuff to drink but only water for diabetics/low carb-ers, and people trying to keep healthier. My diabetic DH always end up grouchy!

DIY-ing it :) makes my life easier (I've got catering contacts, so can get everything at quite a large discount) and I don't have to rely on anyone else just in case they mess it up (obsessive non-delegator here).

A mocktail would be nice - any ideas? Why is it trouble?

My partner is diabetic :D so I feel that pain.  Diet fizzy stuff is on the list, hopefully I'll be able to do the mocktails reasonably sugar-free or low-carb.  Ideas from a fellow partner-diabetic? :)
  • You could get flavored syrups to make strawberry, raspberry, or peach lemonade.  We use real strawberries to make strawberry lemonade and that was a hit with the Pentecostal non-drinkers at DDs wedding a few years ago.  Here are some suggestions:

Hope something in there helps.  I know the last link has a recipe for nonalcoholic sangria.  I have used a different recipe for that in the past that was a huge hit and you could make a large quantity ahead of time.  Good luck!

    Entirely awesome, thank you! xx

A mocktail would be trouble because someone would have to make each one. So you'd need to hire a bartender. If you're DIY-ing, it may not be worth it.

Virgin daquiris, pina coladas, or even just sparkling grape juice with fresh berries would be delicious.

Soda = coke, sprite, dr. pepper, pepsi, etc. It's a word to describe those types of drinks as a group.

  • Soda is Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, Root beer, any carbonated beverage.

I would serve mixed Iced tea and Lemonade and then some kind of mocktail, along with soda and water.

I was thinking of doing one big batch of a simple (reasonably sugar-less) mocktail (such as the fizzy grape juice) in a big drinks fountain (kitsch FTW!)

Thanks for the explanation of soda!

*Any ideas WRT amounts, assuming 80 people, coke, diet coke, lemonade, a lime mocktail, iced water and a mocktail?*
  • People tend to drink 1-2 beverages on hour. So plan for that. How long is your reception?

If you are having 80 people, I would plan to have 160 glasses worth of your mocktail. Then its kind of a "know your crowd' type of thing. Do more people drink tea or Coke? I would get a few extra and return what you dont use.

Italian sodas with SF syrups are a favorite around our house. Also, you'll be his new BFF if you have SF lemonade. He gets so jealous of everyone else getting juice!

  • One of my favorite Mocktails is Cranberry Juice w/Sprite, it's my mocktail version of a Cranberry/Vodka or is you put it in a fancy glass a substitute for a Cosmopolitan. Also Ice tea as an additional option could be a good hit. For people that are interested then they can mix the ice tea with the lemonade for a "Arnold Palmer" drink.

I was going to make limeade (lime juice, fizzy water, Candarel-type-sugar-substitute).  Would this go down well with your OH?  I kinda want to surprise him a bit.

I love it! Simple and pretty, thank you so much!

May end up doing sparkling apple juice with blueberries floating in it for toasts.

Might get some edible glitter and put it in the drinks fountain - kitsch FTW!

Thanks for all the help! xx

I don't know Candarel but it sounds good to me!

  • I think iced tea and lemonade are good ones that most people like.  If you do an unsweetened tea, it works for all the non-sugar people.  My brother did a sweet raspberry iced tea that people loved. Or people can mix the lemonade & iced tea. If you go with flavored syrups, you can do a plain iced tea & fizzy/soda water, then people can flavor them however they want to (raspberry, cherry, etc.).  That leaves a lot of options for people with little cost, supply, or work on your part.  Maybe have the iced tea, fizzy water, and lemonade alongside a "flavor bar" with all the various flavor syrup options to add into it?

What time of year is it? For spring village fetes we have Ribena mixed with lemonade and fresh fruit (orange, strawberries, raspberries)/ mint leaves as a non-alcoholic version of pimms for children. It is really nice if warm outside, and you can make jugs of it very easily. If it is cold, everyone loves hot chocolate and mulled apple juice.

October half-term (a lot of my friends are teachers, it's just easier for them to come).

    Thank you!xx
