Bridesmaid Dresses: How or What To Choose???

Let me preface this with two things: I have NO eye for fashion, design or color.   AND I am going for more casual affair than formal.

That being said, I am not sure if I should try to pick the dresses out that I want my girls to wear or just give them a color and let them pick what is more comfortable for them.  I've only got 2 (possible 3) girls in my party and I do have my own dress all settled.

I really have no clue what I'm doing - I want people to be comfortable and just have fun - and I'm starting to realise I need to reach out.

So, help!!! Please?

  • Yes, picking just a colour, fabric, length, and/or designer is perfectly OK.  Or, you could just say "pick any dress that is in this kind of colour scheme" sort of thing.

  • Picking a color and letting your bridesmaids select a style that works for them is a good way to keep them happy and comfortable.
  • I would let them choose their own dresses.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

Because the girls in my bridal party are VERY different shapes, sizes and heights, and have very different modesty preferences I picked the brand, color, length and fabric, and let them pick the dress. So they all got navy blue floor length chiffon Bill Levkoff dresses. One girl is wearing a sleeveless illusion neckline, another is in a high cut neckline with cap sleeves, another in a lower cut front with a keyhole back, and another girl is in a strapless dress. They seemed to all be grateful to be picking their own dress, esp since the color is one that can be reworn (one of the dresses will be nearly identical to an antropologie dress one of the girls loves once its shortened post-wedding). They all looked stunning while trying the dresses on.

Picking the brand, color and fabric can be important if you want them to look matchy in pictures without dictating the exact dress. If you're fine with totally different shades of a color though, you can just say "navy" and let them find a dress anywhere- just be aware all colors can really vary, which is obvious in photos where the girls stand next to each other. Totally your preference on level of matchy-ness.
