Shower Dates and Wedding Invites

I'm possibly probably way over thinking this, but I don't like making decisions that affect a lot of people. How I've gotten this far in wedding planning is beyond me. My family wants to throw me a bridal shower in February. Cool, yay! And they want to know a day in February that will work for me. The options are the 7th, 8th, 15th, and 21st. I'm planning on sending wedding invitations out by the 7th. Does it matter whether people get invited to a wedding shower before they've received a wedding invitation? Everyone who will be at the shower is invited to the wedding, but this means that people will get a bridal shower invitation at the end of January (I suppose, depending on the date we choose) and then a few days or a week later get a wedding invitation. I don't want to bombard people's mailboxes! Am I over-thinking this? If I'm being ridiculous, it's okay to tell me so and I'll chalk it up to stress since the wedding is now less than 3 months away haha.

What would you do?

Re: Shower Dates and Wedding Invites

  • The invitations for my shower went out around Christmas, and mine aren't going out until the last day of February (that way they arrive 8 weeks before my wedding).  This totally normal and fine.

  • I think you're overthinking :)

I would choose a shower date based on what's most convenient for you and then make sure the invites get sent about 4 weeks in advance. That's all.

  • Yep. I agree with PPs. I'm pretty sure my shower invites went out before the wedding invitations. Come to think of it, I think the shower happened before wedding invitations went out...

  • Thanks guys. I figured I was over-thinking this but I'm glad to know there's no issue with the dates :)

  • Mine went out before my wedding invites!
  • I believe it's quite customary for the shower invite to go out before the wedding invite.

And I say this because my step mom was freaking out that she didn't send the shower invites before I sent the wedding invites. Most of the guests received both the shower and wedding invite at the same time, funny enough. No one cares, from what I can gather.
