Re: Great Gatsby Oct. 31,2015 Wedding

  • What does "modest yet grand" mean?

And nope!  we like to spend Halloween with my FI's kids and didn't' want out anniversary on Halloween every year.  Plus we didn't want to pull any parents away from their kids for our wedding so we are doing 10/17

  • not as grand as one would think when thinking of a great gatsby wedding and little to no gold but keeping with the theme with lots of pearls fun and alcohol. My fiance and I love kids but dont want them at at our wedding. Everything will have alcohol incorporated in some way and a full service bar.

and everything will be crafted with the help of friends and family so it will be slightly modest in budget.

    oh ps congradulations :)

Just remember that no one is required to help you do your DIY wedding.  We see it on the other boards here a lot, only you and your Fiance are required to do it so don't be upset if in the next year, you aren't getting as much help as you want.

It's fine to not want kids at your wedding, just keep in mind that if you have family and friends with children, Halloween is usually a day to spend together trick or treating.

    Good luck!

  • thats up to them i've been talking about having a wedding on Halloween since i was a little girl. Them wanting to spend time with there kids is completely fine with me that's why there is RSVP. I've already've had friends said they'd love to help. plus its just certain things like bridesmaids sashes and chair sashes just simple things like that most everything will be bought

Thank your for the incouragement :D

  • Congrats! I had a halloweenesque wedding for the first go round. This time I'm going with a more traditional (and SMALL!) wedding, no theme.

    Good luck!

Don't judge someone's wedding date, please. You sound entitled. A lot of people get married on Halloween because of love of the holiday
and so that they can spend future anniversaries on that day.

OP-- your wedding sounds like so much fun!

  • @peachy13 the OP asked if anyone else was having a halloween wedding.  I explained why my wedding date was the date it was because we have kids.  I didn't say that no one should ever get married on Halloween so not exactly sure how that makes me "entitled."  But ok, you can think I'm "judging" for some reason.  That says more about you calling people names than it does about me.

  • My parents got married on November 1st, and didn't realize until after they had us kids that it fell the day after halloween!  I kinda thought maybe I should stick with a Holiday for my wedding.  FI asked me to be his girlfriend on New Years Day, and we got engaged on Halloween.  Seems to me like it would be a fun thing!  Congrats, and best of luck planning!

Sorry! It was a bad misunderstanding on my part! Protective of Sat 10/31/15 because it's also my date. :)

see i know how it is to forget dates so holidays are really good for that and halloween is my fave
plus was going to set up a candy bar for those that have kids and those that love candy like myself ^-^
i recommend holidays if your fiance is forgetful or like how you guys began it just seems very fitting to have a holiday wedding.

@jordancorrine2015 -- That sounds like so much fun!!! What a great theme. Hope it's everything you ever dreamed of! :)
  • I wish! It's our favorite holiday, but we were already told not to or many family members couldn't attend, so we are doing 10/23/15. Best of luck, your wedding sounds amazing!

We are getting married on the 10th so not the 31st, but my cousin did a Halloween wedding, and just asked everyone to be in costume.. it was alot of fun, they had a lot of fun things for the kids to do.. and the reception was at a bar so it was very alcohol involved wedding.. we also have an open bar, there will also be a lot of kids there, I have 2 boys, my FH has 4 nieces under 5.. that is just the wedding party... congratulations! Also my first son's birthday is halloween so it would be lot on that day..

  • We heavily considered a Halloween wedding! I love the idea and must admit I am a little jealous! Funnily enough though we too are doing a Gatsby-ish wedding! I love art deco & rustic so we are striving to combine the two themes. We landed on October 25th instead of the 31st, truthfully I would have wanted it but my FI was hesitant because when we have kids he thought we wouldn't be able to enjoy our anniversary the way we might want to. But I guess the thought didn't bother me. It might prove difficult to enjoy our anniversary no matter what time of year it is when we have kids! But we are having a Halloween inspired rehearsal dinner in lieu of the wedding date being on Halloween. It will be held at my sister's house and she has these really elegant and Gothic inspired Halloween decorations so we are essentially playing off of that.
If we were getting married on Halloween I totally would have worn this dress by Enzoani-- I tried it on and fell absolutely in love with it! And it would have been so unique and memorable. It is also available in a more mermaid/tulip shape which it turns our flatters my body better than ball gown, but the very cool thing about this dress is it is only partially full, not in the front and not in the back but rather only on the sides so it was extremely flattering.

oh my goodness thats awesome i may have to move my date only because my fiance just lost his just so its on the fence right now but if its not on the date we are sure to get married at least buy the court on that date and then strive for a later date.

but yes i'm am so the 1920s honest i've been told i'd have probably been one of those risque type 1920s girls, flapper dress, whispers of womens, and probably in a speakeasy i like my liquor.
