Has Stanford found a cure for Alzheimer's?

I know this disease has affected quite a few of us here... though I wish they'd found this 15 years ago, I cried reading this last night at the prospect of more families not having to face it.

Re: Has Stanford found a cure for Alzheimer's?

  • Thank you for sharing. I sent this to DH to show him because he is so passionate about Alzheimer's. I'm so excited to see this work. Maybe it could be as easy as taking a pill!

  • I surely hope so. The research discoveries sound extremely promising.

My grandfather was the strongest person I have ever known. Strict, but loving. Frugal from growing up on a farm in the Depression era. Dutch in every way. World War II tail gunner in the Army Air Corp. So sharp and quick-witted. Crunched numbers for NASA during the race to the moon. "Can't never did do a damn thing," was his favorite phrase.

Alzheimer's took all of that from him.

    Now I'm a little misty.

Jesus that would be cool I don't even care if I lose my job!

It will be a long time before that stuff Is mass produced and it won't reverse the dementia effects it seems like. Just a preventative measure. We haven't been able to regrow memory cells and other brain cells yet have we

  • Thank you.

We have this on both sides of my family. It's too late for my grandfather but it would be amazing if it comes in time for my parents.

  • Thank you for posting this.

My grandfather died from Alzheimer's in 1993. It was the most gut-wrenching thing to watch. I'm always worried that it will affect another member of my family. My FIL was recently diagnosed with it too.

Same here. My grandma died from it in 2010, but was essentially incapacitated by it since about 2002. Was first diagnosed in I think 1998. There hasn't been a clear genetic link established, but I'm terrified of my dad getting it. He's already made it VERY clear that he doesn't want to put us through that so I'm worried he'd... do something.

  • My grandma died from it in 2007. Towards the end, I couldn't stand to visit her anymore. And honestly, when she died I wasn't that upset. Because I had lost her a long time ago.

Ugh. This is so awful for so many people. It would be amazing if this study leads to a mass-produced drug in our generation.

This is my situation, too. As far as I know we only have it on one side, but it's pretty damn vicious on that side. My grandfather is suffering from it (and, as his caretaker, my grandmother is, too) and I know my mother is afraid it's happening to her every time she makes a mistake or forgets something.

  • My best friend's grandma (a lady I was extremely fond of and a huge member in our community) died in 2013 from Alzheimer's. This would be amazing.
