Wedding Invitations & Paper

I have a question about postage.

I'm sending out very simple Save the Dates - a single piece of cardstock with a twine bow  When I went to mail them, I was told each card would cost 26¢ extra to mail because of the little knot of twine.  That's quite a jump when you're mailing out 250 Save the Dates!  Has anyone else run into this?

Re: I have a question about postage.

  • No.  Mine was normal postage for magnets.  I'm pretty surprised that it would be 26 cents extra per STD

Also - you're sending 250 STDs??  How many people are you inviting to your wedding?

  • The reason why you were charged extra was probably because that knot most likely made the envelope too thick which means it wouldn't go through their sorting machine.

  • yep, that sounds standard. You'll also pay more in postage if your invites are square or some other 'non-traditional' shape.
Abd ditto dcbride- I'm also curious about how big that wedding is going to be, 250 STDs is a lot!

Agree with the other PPs. Same goes for square invites. It doesn't go through their sorter correctly so its extra postage.

And also agree with the others, that's a LOT of save the dates. Goodness.

Wow!  At an average of two people per invitation, you're having 500 people at your wedding!  Crazy!  Hope it's fun!
  • Thanks for the info!  I ended up sending out only 183 - I know that's still a ton, but many of those are far out of town family and won't be attending.  They just needed the invitation since they are family.  We're thinking there will only be about 250 to 300 attending.  It's just a little cake and punch reception, so shouldn't be a problem.

As long as you're able to host if 100% of your invitees decide to attend, you're fine.
