Talk to me about blenders

There was a Vitamix lady in Costco the other day. And of course, she made me want a Vitamix. It was something like $450, so I didn't buy it on the spot but I realllllly wanted to.

Do any of you own a Vitamix? What about a Ninja? What's the difference? Worth it/not worth it? What features do you like/not like?

Ninja seems a lot cheaper for similar results.

  • I havent used a Vitamix but I love my ninja. It does everything a blender should do and more.

  • I have a Ninja and it is great. It does what I need it to do, which is make margaritas and daquiris. Oh, and occasionally chopping vegetables.

  • We don't have it yet, but a Ninja is on my registry.  Vitamix seems cool, but I simply can't justify the cost.

I really want a Ninja. I had it on my registry off and on, debating between "I want to use my coupon on this!" and "I don't want to look greedy for registering for such an expensive blender." My mom was going to buy it for us, but when she went to buy it it was one of the "off" days. Bollocks. She gave us the cash instead, but we still haven't pulled the trigger on it.

I've had a Cuisinart one for yeeeeaaaaars, the Duet kind with the glass blender pitcher and the food processor. Love it, and up until lately it's done an awesome job at whole fruit smoothies (and hummus, pesto, tapanade, shredded cheese, etc). The gear is starting to wear away a bit now though, and it's leaving some frozen strawberry chunks.

  • I have a Ninja, too. I paid about $180 at Target for the "kitchen system" which also includes the food processor. That machine will pulverize just about anything! My only gripe is that the food processor doesn't include a little spout to add stuff as you process, do you have to open the whole lid each time. I hear the Vitamix is way more powerful but I think you'd only notice that if you are a near professional-level user. I'm happy with my Ninja.

  • I have a Vitamix and I LOVE it. It does everything it advertises. It's awesome. Their customer service and warranty is great too. I broke it doing something stupid and we called them. They emailed us a label to ship it to them, fixed it and shipped it back. Cost us nothing and they never even asked what happened that broke it.

That said though, the price is crazy. I love it and I'm happy I have it, but I'm not sure if I'd buy it again.

  • It is hood rat behavior to have more than one, I think.

  • I've got my eye on one of the Ninja systems with the food processor.  I'm leery because FSS put the motor part of their last blender in water because it "smelled fishy" and burnt it up.  I'd be pissed if he burnt up a $200+ blender.  lol

  • I have a Ninja and love it. If I could afford the Vitamix, I would buy it, or maybe the super awesome Ninja. I just have the  cheapest model with the three different sizes. It works well for smoothes and margaritas.

@beethery beat me to the hoodrat punch.

I always think I want a Vitamix so badly but then I remember how rarely I use the blender we have, and how I really don't need to make margarita-making any easier than it already is (because I still need to go to work and not just drink margaritas all the time.)

Another blender sidenote, has anyone seen the youtube videos put out by Blendtec, "Will it Blend?" Go look. Just trust me.

  • We registered for a Ninja since FI said he wants a blender that makes "Smoothie King consistency" smoothies.

Sam's was running too good of a deal on the 1500 watt one with the food processor attachment, blender attachment and 2 single serve cups that I pulled it off the registry and bought it. I am in love with it.

I particularly love the food processor attachment. It is badass and came with a dough hook I have yet to try.

FI approved the smoothie consistency, too.

You just might just love the dough hook more when you use it. It's amazing.

  • A friend of mine said her sister bought a blender called a Megamix because she didn't want to spend the money on a Vitamix. Apparently the Megamix is sort of like a knockoff. I've heard amazing things about the Ninja so I may just buy that. They have some package deal going on at Costco for pretty cheap.

I was sold on the dough hook attachment when I figured out how useful it is to shred chicken. My laziness is through the roof.

Maybe I'll actually use it to make dough one day.

  • We were given the Ninja Pro from our registry. I love it and we use it a few times per week. Our measurement of quality is ice: it does a great job breaking down ice for frozen beverages.

  • I have a Ninja & I'm obsessed. We don't use it often, but when we do, bliss.
