Heels for outdoor ceremony

I'm stuck. I want to wear shoes with a heel because FI is a foot taller than me (5'2" vs 6'2"), but our ceremony and pictures will be outdoors. I'm not so much of a heel person, but I know that most heels will sink into the grass. Would a wedge heel solve this problem?

Re: Heels for outdoor ceremony

  • Yes, a wedge would solve your issue.  Also, unless you are dead set on a white/ivory shoe, look into colored options because you will have a greater range of choices.  Remember, if your dress is long then your shoes will really never be seen, so buy something that you like, that is comfortable and that you would consider wearing again.

  • Yep, wedges are probably your best option. And not the kind that taper toward the heel.

  • Yes, a platform wedge is great for outdoor ceremonies. I just suggest a platform since they are more comfortable if you aren't used to heels.

  • I used heel covers. They worked great. I wore heels and we took pictures and had our ceremony outdoors. I didn't sink into the grass once. My MOH picked them up at DSW, but you can order them online as well.
  • I've heard of the heel covers before but haven't tried them myself.  Maybe get some and practice a bit (once the ground is more thawed) to see if you think it will work.  otherwise go for a wedge.

Mine is also outside but I need 1/2 inch at best with my dress.  We have a very slight running "theme" going (our STDs were running bib type of things, etc) so I really want to wear fun running shoes since they wont be seen anyway but will probably just end up with a small wedge

  • @maggie0829 Yeah, I was considering getting a shoe in one of my accent colors. Perfect! Thanks so much for your advice!

That's AWESOME, @climbingbride! I didn't know those exist! That's great to know, so if I don't find a pair of wedges I'm in love with, I know I can keep my options open. :) Thanks so much!

    Thanks everyone!!
  • Yes, I wore a metallic wedge for my outdoor wedding.  Worked out perfectly--no sinking and my feet were comfy all day and into the night.  And now I have a pair of shoes I can wear out.  If I had bought satin bridal shoes, no way I'd wear them again.
