Between the Obama golf course phone call and Maroon 5's "Sugar," are there any celebrities you wouldn't hate (or might actually love) crashing your wedding?

Huffington Post mentioned a Robin Williams run-in (<<clicky>> and scroll down to photo slides), and my heart melted a little.

Re: Celebrity Wedding Crashers

  • larrygaga. I wouldn't want a celebrity crashing my wedding at all. I'm sure it'll make the wedding more memorable but our wedding our one day. It's our wedding, not your concert! Not to mention it would probably encourage other people to crash my wedding to see the celebrity.

To be honest I don't want any celebs crashing my wedding. I'm 100% serious but there aren't many things that take away attention away from the wedding and the family, but that would be a big one. I don't care to meet celebrities. Celebrities who crash weddings just because they are famous irritate me. It's AWish. FI and I get one day. I would like to actually have my one day and not suddenly have to grovel because some shithead came to a party they weren't invited to.

The Obama thing I know was an accident.

It's suddenly not rude because it's a celebrity? Okay.
Totally agree! it is family and friend time for what supposed to be a celebration of love that my fiancée and I share. It's not that time when Maroon 5 crashed to film their video for a song I don't give a shit about.

The Maroon 5 thing is fake. They didn't crash any weddings for that video. And no, I wouldn't want anyone crashing my wedding.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

Either way, I don't want it. A wedding isn't time for a celebrity meet and greet.

  • I didn't necessarily mean "crash" to be an intentional thing (ex. Obama), and I do realize that the video was fake. But I thought running in to Robin Williams while out and about was a sweet thing. I know H would have been over the moon about that. He probably wouldn't have minded running into Scarlett Johansson either--but if that had happened I might not be married right now, lol.

While there are a few people I would definitely have escorted out, H and I aren't exactly limelight folks. We didn't need our friends and family to be there when we made our legal commitments to each other, but it was a fantastic excuse to get all our family members and friends together. As long as our guests were having fun with it, we wouldn't have really been bothered.

  • I have no desire to have celebrities at my wedding.  But I really don't care about celebrities anyway.

We did have some "crashers" at our wedding. Our ceremony/reception was on an outdoor deck in a hotel with balconies on the side.  A few people sat on their balcony to watch.  We also did a Polynesian show at the reception with dancers and musicians cos we didn't have a dance.  One woman came up to as after during the after-party to say that they figured out we were doing (the show), ran out for wine and sushi and made it back in time to watch.  They enjoyed it, and it never bothered us cos they stayed quietly on their balcony.

  • I would have love to have the entire cast of Friends at my wedding. They are welcome anytime, no invite needed. I know most people won't agree with me, but, eh. Celebrities crashing my wedding was never a thing that would have bothered me. Especially since it would never have happened. I mean, who is going to crash a medium-sized wedding in Oklahoma? I don't think anyone we didn't know would be like, "Oh, I have to be there!"
  • I wouldn't want any celebrity crashing or sightings personally. I find it AWish on their part when I see it in the news or on websites when it happens.

Slightly related, when I went to the bathroom during our dinner that night I passed a table on the other side of the lodge and there was a little kid with his parents. He looked all excited and shouted "Mom! Look! Is that the Queen?!" His parents laughed and said yes I must be a queen. I had a good laugh/warm fuzzies from that. Good to know I'm famous to that wee one.

Awww! I was also asked by a little 2 year old boy whom I'd never met if I was "a real princess." It was glorious. :)

  • It depends.  I'm not a celebrity stalker. I just don't care.  I've seen enough of them in my life, that I just do not care or get all excited.

My wedding was at a private club off the beaten path.  If a celebrity dropped by it take a lot of effort on their part and I would find it really weird  and AWish.

Now if I had my wedding at a luxury hotel ballroom and they happen to walk by and us or one of our guests somehow asked them to come in, then no I would not have cared.     I'm sure I would have offered them something to drink.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • We got married in the middle of nowhere so any celebrities would have been totally intentional. I will say that if Jimmy Buffett had been driving through South Alabama on his way to the coast, I would have invited him in and been very ashamed I had no tequila on hand. My parents are huge parrot heads and I feel like he wouldn't be AW about it. I've been thinking about it all day and he's the only person I can think of that would be fun, make my parents crazy happy (almost as happy as marrying me off to such a wonderful guy), and wouldn't be a "celebrity crush."
But then this is us on the way to a JB concert shortly after I got engaged. My mother was so proud.

I'd invite him too, but he would be required to perform. I would totally have Jimmy Buffet as my wedding band!

That's the line for me. If you're an amazing musician and want to play, then I would take it. I have heard that Bill Murray is known to respond to some invitations in Charleston. I know I saw pictures where he "crashed" an engagement shoot. That would definitely make for a fun story.
