Re: Sunday night randoms

  • I'm in MA visiting my mom.  I have a deposition here on Tuesday so I was able to fly early and spend today with her.  She's actually living in her friend's house right now while her friend is in rehab, watching this friend's two sons for a month and a half.  Eeeeesh.  They are 10 and 13, and especially the little one is super full of energy.  They have the Pats game downstairs and Mom is fixing the hem on one of my shirts while I Knot and try to do a little work.

"I'm not a rude bitch.  I'm ten rude bitches in a large coat."

  • Waiting between practices, watching football live on my iPad. I love modern technology

  • Watching Pitch Perfect on ABC Family. This movie never gets old.

  • wrapping up online lecture, sipping bourbon and coke, with kitties around my feet.

Oh, and making terrifying disney princesses.
  • That dress is interesting....Anyways I'm still celebrating my seahawks amazing/crazy emotional win against the packers. So I'm wide awake from coffee, tipsy from booze, jamming to Meghan Trainor. I can't wait for Feb 1st!

That was a crazy game. All these things went right for Seattle and wrong for Green Bay. Hopefully, the pats win!!

  • Right now I'm drinking peach schnapps mix with mango juice. Its pretty awesome but I love anything fruity and sweet.

  • I'm cooking dinner, channel surfing.  DH is at work.   Poor boy fell yesterday skiing and might have bruised a rib.  He is in pain. Not sure how he is cooking right now.  I'm glad it's his "Friday".

  • I just had an interesting talk with FI during halftime of the Colts game. I'm having some... babymaker oddities... And I told him I was really worried I might be pregnant because it isn't impossible.

He said, "why are you worried? Granted, we're not where we want to be, but we're with who we want to be with."

I feel better. Still worried, but better.

    Awww.

I'm a little bummed because we're pretty sure we're going to go to Japan in the fall, which means no attempt at babymaking until we get back. Otherwise we'd probably start this spring.

Of course, I'm two days late, so it could (probably not though) end up being a moot point.

I am sorry but what game did YOU watch? Because for 55 minutes of gameplay EVERYTHING was going right for Green Bay.

ETA the only thing that went "wrong" for GB was the onside kick, the rest was the sheer athleticism and competitiveness of the Seahawks defense and offense

  • huskypuppy14 Yeah no offense but the Packers had things going right for them throughout the whole game. The Packers seem to assume that they will win and didn't try as hard and the Seahawks took advantage of it. I honestly think penalties helped the Packers more often than not. Like it would be 3rd down and the seahawks would prevent a first down. But then we did something stupid ( a penalty) and it became first down. I'm looking at you Michael Bennet.

Sorry, I forgot to put "at the end of the game". If that packer didn't bobble/tip that onside kick return, Seattle would be done.

ETA: Seattle was lucky winning the coin flip,  Seattle might have still won, but the outcome could have been different if the Packers got the ball first in overtime.

    Should be a good superbowl!

    yum.

I made garden salad for myself for at least a few days.   I even work from home, but find it much easier to have it all made to I can just grab it in between calls.

  • The weather today was super shitty with tons of freezing rain, ice, and then rain that just froze on top of the ice. DH and I were going to go shopping for a new watch for him, but were not about to risk our lives on the roads. We ended up staying home and watching "The Librarians" all day. I finally ventured out around 5 to get milk.

I made amazing Guinness beef stew, and now we're watching TBBT reruns until bedtime. I have tomorrow off and he doesn't, so I see a whole lot of sleeping late and crappy daytime TV in my future.

Do you have a recipe for the stew? I always try and make H some but it never comes out quite right.

Eta I don't know why I put my faith in the mobile boxes.

Yeah, there's no way in hell I'd fly to Japan halfway through a pregnancy. But you could start in Japan? It'd be cool to torture a future kid with, "You were made in Japan!" When they're old enough to get the joke.

I'm almost a full week early. I haven't ever, in my whole life, been so much as a day early. If I'm out of whack, I'm late. So - obviously - I googled it last night.

I don't have a recipe, per se, but I have a combination of ingredients with appropriate measurements that works quite well for us.

2 lbs. stew beef, cut in cubes
    1 tsp Kosher salt
    1/2 tsp ground black pepper
    1 tsp cumin
    1 tsp nutmeg
    1 Tbs garlic powder
4 or 5 good splashes of Worcestershire sauce
    1 - 12 oz bottle Guinness
1 lb carrots, cut in chunks
    1/4 C barley
4 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
4 or 5 celery stalks, trimmed and cut in chunks
1 medium onion, cut in 1" dice
1 - 15 oz can kidney beans, drained and rinsed (optional)
    water

Brown the meat on both sides in a screaming hot, heavy bottomed pot with a little oil on medium-high heat. Add dry seasonings, stirring to combine with the oil, fat, and liquid in the pan, cook 1 minute. Add Worcestershire sauce, beer, and enough water to cover the meat. Cover and reduce heat to low. Stir and allow to simmer 30 minutes. Stir in barley and carrots; add enough water to cover then simmer 30 minutes. Stir in potatoes and enough water to cover; simmer 30 minutes. Stir in celery, onion, and beans; add enough water to cover; simmer 30 minutes. Remove lid, increase heat to medium. Add powdered mashed potatoes in small amounts to thicken the liquid to your liking. Season to taste. Remove from heat, serve.

This meal pretty much guarantees DH will be in a good mood for several days. The leftovers are great, too.
