Wine Menu

I got an email back from our Venue. YAY!  We decided on having an open bar for all cocktails and they would like us to chose four red and four white wines to serve for our guests. There wine list is extensive and it all pairs with our different entree choices we have for our guest.  Any wine suggestions? We were considering: Shiraz, Zinfandel, Pinor Noir, and a Cab Sav. For whites: Pinot Grigio, Moscato, Vinho Verde, Sauv Blanc. We have Rose and Champagne available as well.

I love Moscato, and H loves Shiraz (and I like it too, I can usually drink Cab. Sav too. ) I'm not familiar with Vinho Verde, but I can't imagine any white wine drinker whos not okay with Pinot Grigio or Moscato.

Vinho Verde is IMO similar to Pinor Grigio but pairs extremely well with white sauce and seafood. It's Portuguese with fresh and citrus aromas.  I mostly drink reds but other than Vinho Verde and Moscato I am not a white wine drinker.  It doesn't help that FH only drinks Plum Wine

  • I'm actually drinking a Shiraz from, my wine menu.

  • I drink Merlot almost exclusively, but lately I've been getting really into Carmenere and Pinot Noir. I'd be thrilled with just about any red wine. Pinot Grigio or Sauv Blanc are pretty much the only white wines I drink, and I think those are both pretty basic and safe choices.
  • My first choice white is almost always a Reisling, if it's available. I also really enjoy Moscato, and in general I'll drink about any white that's not oaky. Though speaking of that, perhaps you should trade one of the whites for a dry oaked Chardonnay. While I personally don't care for it, right now all your white options are off-dry to sweet and to please a range of palates I'd include a dry one.

I can't speak as much to the reds since I don't drink most types that aren't a table wine (and pretty much considered trash by wine snobs). My bosses enjoy reds, though, and their favorite is Petite Syrah, though it seems to be a bit hard to find.

Your reds seem to be a good variety: one light, one fruit-forward, one heavy, and one heavy and oaky. For your whites, though, Vinho Verde and Sauv Blanc both have a very light, grassy type flavour so having both seems redundant. I'd remove one of those and add a heavy, buttery white like Chardonnay because it's still very popular with some people (mostly the older generation.) I might also switch the Moscato to something slightly less sweet. It's good to have a sweeter white, but a Riesling or Gewurztraminer is a lot more crowd-pleasing and better with a meal than a cloying Moscato.

  • Our caterer and venue coordinator agreed on serving their wine list because we are having a premium open bar. Why choose from eight when you can select your favorite style!?
I want to make sure our guest can choose their favorite and be happy with their selection. I'm meeting with our coordinator this evening.

  • Sounds great! My red choice is usually pinot noir or cab sauv and my white is sauv blanc or pinot grigio, so I would be in heaven!
