Gift table?

First of all, we are not registered so we are not expecting a lot of gifts. However, I'm sure there will be a few gifts and quite a few cards. I will ask the restaurant if they have a recommendation of where to put these, but wanted to get The Knot's opinion too. Should there be a small table near the entrance (i.e. next to where the escort cards are located) where people can drop off their gift or card? I'm particularly concerned that if people bring a card, that it not get lost (it's harder to lose a boxed gift).

I would suggest a card box at the very least.

Definitely at least a card box. I attended a wedding at a restaurant and there was no card box so I walked around with my card all night asking people where I should put it. I ended up giving it to the groom's mom. I'm not sure if the couple ever even received the card since I haven't received a thank you.

A card box would be a really good idea.  And since that card box has to go on something I suggest having a small table for any boxed gifts.  It doesn't have to be huge but you need a place where people know it is okay to place their gift.  If not then you will have people coming up to you asking where they should put your box brand new towels.

ditto the card box (or something to put cards in). I am sure the restaurant can supply a table to put this, and other gifts on if brought to the reception.

You don't even have to get creative with a card box.  Michael's make some that are really pretty.

I'm copying an idea from Craigslist and doing a small birdcage with a sign that says "cards" (this will be on a table that will be near the entrance so they don't have to awkwardly search for a place to put their gift/card).
