bridesmaid dress help

I am torn on what to put my bridesmaids in, so I'm hoping to get some help here! I have 4 bridesmaids, 2 of which are very busty. Therefore, we have decided to go with chiffon dresses in hopes that it will be flattering on all of them. My dilemma, though, should the dresses be long or short? My original vision had my girls in satin short dresses, but I now know that that look will not work for all of my girls. My wedding is in the middle of June, so it will most likely be warm weather, which makes me lean toward short dresses. Long chiffon dresses look so elegant, though. Any thoughts?

Re: bridesmaid dress help

  • Do your bridesmaids have a preference?

  • What do your girls like better and what do you like better? They can all wear long dresses or all short but they can do both too. You have an even number of BMs too so 2 can wear short and 2 can wear long if that's what you like. Here are couple of pictures where some BMs wore short and the others wore long dresses to get a better picture:

  • my maids are kind split on the issue. two like long, but said they were good with whatever I want. the other two prefer the short. my FMIL mentioned having a mixture of both, but I don't like that idea. I want them all to look more uniform, not to mention my fiance HATES that idea!
  • Long chiffon dresses do look elegant, but so can short dresses in my opinion.  The girls might appreciate a short dress since it will be in June.  Whatever you go with, I'm sure it'll be wonderful!
  • Here is the dress we're gonna go with. It comes in both options. If we go with short dresses, they're gonna be navy. Any thoughts now that I've posted pictures?
  • I love the back of the short one!  I think it adds a layer of elegance, so if you prefer the short dresses, go for it!  That being said, the long dress is stunning as well.
  • I just went for the 1st time with my bridesmaids last weekend to DB and Alfred Angelo and I said we could do either long or short - they could decide. Shockingly they all preferred long. My wedding is in October, so I think long will look better anyway but I will say even the long chiffon from DB was REALLY lightweight and I don't think they'd be too hot if you chose long. It just depends on the store/fabric, as AA chiffon I thought was much heavier.

Either way I'm sure they'll look gorgeous! I love the dresses you posted :)

What does he think will be the worst to happen if all of them get to wear the length they prefer?

  • Regardless of what you pick, I like chiffon so much better than satin.

I probably won't wear a bridesmaid dress again.  But I definitely won't wear a satin one.  And I'll have a long satin one to Goodwill, or if there's any potential resale value, on eBay before 9:00 a.m. on Monday.
  • I'm having my girls mismatch, but I want a little bit of uniformity, so I'm having them wear mid-lower thigh to knee-length dresses. I also really like chiffon better than satin. Satin to me looks old-lady. That's just my opinion.

no matter what, we're going with chiffon. @megmal06 the back of the short dress is the exact same as the back of the long one. it's really the same dress, I just need to decide on a length. we're most likely going with short. I just can't picture it in my head yet, so I'm hoping it turns out the way I originally envisioned.
