wedding shoes to dance the night away

Does anyone have recommendations for good shoes for the wedding and a night of dancing that won't murder the bride's feet?  Pictures and links would be appreciated! Thanks!

Re: wedding shoes to dance the night away

  • I wore awesome 4 inch heels for most of the day, and switched into platform white sparkly flip flops I found on etsy when my feet began to hurt. Ended up being after cake cutting and before bouquet toss, and I was able to dance just fine in my flip flops. I had them platform so my dress would not drag when I changed out of my heels.

  • I wore flat sandals.  Partially cos we overlooked a beach and did photos in the sand and partially cos I rarely if ever wear heels and didn't want to be uncomfortable all night.

In other weddings, the WP (me) has switched to matching Old Navy flip flops provided by the Bride.  That was awesome too, but probably not exactly what you're looking for.

  • Basically, anything that has some sort of a platform will be very comfortable to wear for hours. My shoes had half platforms on them. I also added those Dr.Scholls shoe inserts to make them extra cushy. It helped a lot! And on the heels I put those heel protectors that give you more stability. All in all, it worked out very well and my shoes were only $40 off of Light in the Box!

  • I like just about any kind of wedges for a long day on my feet. For regular heels, Sofft is my go-to brand since they manage to be both pretty and comfy.

I've given up on 4 inch heels for pretty much good. I used to be that girl that could wear them the entire party and not bitch once about foot pain. Between that and years of dancing, now I will wear about a 2-3 inch heel. Much less painful, still cute. I have abused my poor feet enough for one lifetime.

I am wearing a pair of nude jelly pop 3 inch heel. I tried to find it online but I'm thinking it's not sold anymore. I am going to attempt to cover it in white lace and other pretty wedding things. It's my favorite shoe for comfort and cuteness by FAR. They are a tad beaten up though, so it'll be a good thing to cover it in lace. Provided I am actually able to do it.

  • I bought a pair from a new designer who was/is a professional dancer.  They are super high but have a TON of cushion in them, super comfortable if you are used to wearing heels.  She has some other cool styles too.

  • I wore ballet flats because my dress came in too short (they told me it would be 4 inches too long so I could wear 3 inch heels, it was only a 1/2 inch too long). My mom bought them for me and were super uncomfortable, so as soon as I got to the reception, I was barefoot.

I wore a kitten heel for my wedding, including most of the dancing (late in the reception, I changed out of my wedding dress because I was too hot and when I did, I went barefoot).  But the shoes were very comfortable.  I can't find a picture of them, but the heel height and style were similar to these, just a lighter blue and a regular back instead of a sling back.

ETA: I liked that a little pop of color peeked out from my dress when I walked.  The color of the shoe was a shade or two lighter than the bridesmaids dresses in the pictures below and a very close match to my bouquet and the hair pins I wore.

  • I'll also add-- what is your day-of schedule like?  I was in 4 inch Betsy Johnsons for 3 solid hours of walking, standing, and photo-taking before the ceremony. Right before the ceremony I had about 45 minutes of a break with my shoes off. I made it through the ceremony and cocktail hour, then sat awhile for dinner, and made it through perhaps an hour of dancing before admitting defeat. I danced the rest of the night in my stockings and tried not to trip on the dress.

Depending on your schedule you might be able to handle a fabulous, yet not totally comfortable shoe. Or, you might not. I put Dr. Sholls in my heels too, which helped, and I wore them around the house when I was alone to break them in.

  • I bought a cheap pair of shoes from Amazon about half a size too big and I've got a ton of extra cushioning in them - insoles, heel grips, etc. I've worn them for a whole day of bachelorette party (not my own) activities and a whole night of dancing afterwards and they were fine. They're about four inches but they have a 2-inch toe platform so my feet aren't at a sharp angle and they are very comfortable.

  • I have these shoes from bhldn. They're really comfy because of the low heel.

Some advice I've heard over the years that seems to hold true:
    • wedges are comfier than heels
    • low heels are comfier than super tall heels
    • a platform on the toe makes tall heels comfier
    • some kind of strap that holds the shoe in place also tends to help with comfort
    • pay a little more for better quality materials; synthetic materials can be really stiff and hurt-y
    • everyone's feet are different so a brand that may be super comfy on one person may not be comfy on another person
    • walk around in them a bunch in your house to break them in, and find out if there are any spots that rub. You can usually find stuff-- like stick-in shoe pads or mole skin-- to help with those spots as long as they're not horrendous

  • I had shoes that I bought a half size too big and filled with cushy insoles... but my damn heel kept slipping out of them. So I just went barefoot. No shame. I had to hold my dress up regardless of heel height because people kept stepping on it.

  • I'm wearing wedges. I got them last year to be worn all day for 4th of July. I know that I can twerk and get my groove on all night in those.

  • I just wore flats.
  • A lot of people recommend Tieks... I have been looking at them but having a hard time spending so much on flats...

  • Kate Spade has some of the most comfortable heels in the world.  I always wear them to work because I know I can walk around all day if I need to.  Also, there are often Kate Spade sales on Gilt.

I'm getting 2 pairs of shoes - heels for the ceremony and first dance, and then flats for the rest of the night.  I'd rather not fall on my face, and I've been known to do that totally sober while wearing flats, so I don't want to push the limits haha
