UGH JUST LET ME LIKE YOU!

One of the receptionists where I work is just awful. I want to like her and say that she's nice, but I really don't think she is. I try really hard to like her, but it just can't happen because she won't friggin' do her job. And I've been a receptionist at TONS of places so I know what it's like to do this job. All she has to do is answer the phones/transfer calls, take messages, and let us know when our clients have arrived. That's it.

But no. I'll get calls while I'm out and have NO idea someone has called me. This will happen repeatedly until finally the person gets through and I have to explain why I never got back to them after they called 3-5 times. Or I'm in session (and she can see my schedule right beside her) and she'll send multiple calls to my line over and over, instead of taking a message for me.

I will have clients sit in the lobby for over half an hour past their appointment time because she doesn't let me know they're here. And I know that the reception area can get really busy so I try to be proactive and go check up front for my people when I have an appointment coming in, but last week I had a miscommunication with someone who I thought wanted to cancel their appointment, so I didn't know they were coming in and didn't go check on them. They waited for 45 minutes until finally asking the receptionist if I was in. Then I get a snarky phone call from her saying, "Uhh.. Linz, your APPOINTMENT is here."

Also, she's just really not nice. Like no professionalism whatsoever. No phone courtesy. She can be 'friendly-ish' in conversation, but definitely not at doing her job, and she's been here for years. I've talked to my boss about this multiple times and nothing has changed, so I guess I just have to deal with it. There's no point to this post other than me whining, so tell me about your awful coworkers.

  • Sounds like you need voicemail and a quick walk to the lobby every once in awhile. UGH so annoying

  • My awful co-workers?...

I work with a man who always (and I mean EVERYDAY) has an excessive amount of phlegm. Need I say more?! Ick.

  • I just left work and I'm in a foul fucking mood.
The new department I'm working in has a high turnover rate and I should have thought about that before I switched from my old position because I now know why.
This one woman keeps cutting people off and not giving a shit what you say and starts EVERY FUCKING SENTENCE with "Ya know can I tell ya?"  STFU ALREADY.
I beg my husband every day to let me quit and no longer go.  I can't fucking take it anymore.

  • That sucks! I know the pain of sucky co-workers. I use to have a lot of them. I only have one now but he is awful. He never does anything unless you tell him to, always thinks he is right, has an excuse for everything and overall just doesn't put in effort. I'm technically his boss, but I'm the same age and a woman so of course he doesn't listen.

  • One of my coworkers had foot surgery in early December. He still moans and groans and seriously will try to show his nasty jacked up foot to anyone who comes to meet with him. He is very "woe is me" about everything in his life... Before the foot surgery it was a gallbladder issue. Before that it was probably him calling someone a racist (and that's why he got put on a performance plan... Not because he is awful at his job)
  • One of the women on my team (and whose cubicle is right next to mine) is ALWAYS dealing with family drama over the phone at work. She has 2 grown but young kids. One of them has a baby but isn't married to the child's father, and they just have sooo much drama between them and the father's side of the family.

And when she isn't lecturing her kids about something, she's either singing gospel songs over the phone (?), playing annoying videos on her phone, or browsing facebook on her second monitor. It's no wonder I have to ask her to correct her own entry mistakes considering all the multitasking she does. I mean I knot at my desk sometimes but I sure as shit am paying close attention to my work.

  • My AP is back cos the Principal she was covering for returned to work.  But she's gone for the rest of the year as of Friday!!!  Woo!!  Everyone at work is getting trashed this weekend in celebration

  • I work with a man who thinks he is fucking brilliant.  As far as he's concerned, everything out of his mouth is gold.  He randomly breaks out into rap music lyrics moving around the office (no, that's not distracting at all that he's yelling "hey bitch why you gotta do me like that?").  Although he graduated undergrad awhile back and applied to many med schools, he still hasn't gotten in but thinks he's going to be a surgeon.  And he's a sexist.  I pray constantly that he will trip over his shoe laces.
  • i have a co worker who cant show up on time, never is at her desk. monday when i was leaving i noticed someone was not at her desk. phones ringing off the hook. do your job right and there wont be an issue and people wont hate you is what i live by.

  • We have loud talkers, yellers (instead of picking up the phone or getting up from their desk to speak with someone, they yell for them to come to their office), and farters.  One guy is all three, no one likes him.
  • I sit near our receptionist and she is very chatty. Usually another co-worker bears the brunt of it, but if she's not around then the receptionist is constantly at my office door to talk about the call she just had or what people did wrong today or her crazy neighbours. Drives me up the wall.

Walking from the printer to my office I have to pass smelly hand lotion office, smelly food office, smelly fart office. My nose wants to quit this job.

  • I have so many stories about my legal assistant/secretary.  Everything with her becomes A Thing.  I don't know how else to explain it.  If I ask for something, there's a bunch of questions why I'm doing it this way, if it's really what I should be doing, and then it gets done finally a week later with a bunch of excuses.  She also won't own up to anything, gets super defensive, and blames stuff on others.  It's really bad.  We've lost a motion because she didn't file something and she just said the court should have caught it.

We've tried really hard to be friendly and work with her, but it''s just always A Thing.  The other attorney she works with is having a chat with her about a snarky email she sent, and I can hear everything through the wall.  It's uncomfortable.

  • This bitch I work with oversleeps all the time, listens to loud music all day, falls asleep when she should be working, and eats smelly things at weird hours.

Oh wait, I stay home. That's me.

  • Inkdancer - All the way down the thread I kept thinking how happy I have been since I stopped working with a group set up office daily, and the many headaches I had a few years back with some coworkers, all of which changed for the better when just 2 were fired. Everyone's morale improved.

But when I got to yours YES. I know that person in the mirror.
