  I have also heard that their prices are on the high side.  But I have also heard that their alterations aren't that wonderful.  My sister had a bad experience at the DB where she bought her dress.  She purchased a wedding gown that had a satin underlay and a lace overlay.  Well they hemmed the satin portion but not the lace.  They told her the lace could not be taken up.  They did not tell her this at her fitting.  So she had to rush to find another seamstress elsewhere who easily took up the lace hem.

  
  

  So personally, I would find a reputable seamstress in your area who has great reviews to take your dress to.

  When you go to pick up your dress, ask if the seamstress can take a quick look and tell you what alterations you need and an approximate price. If you call the store they can tell you when's a good time to come in.
  
  Try searching on your local board, yelp, etc. for recommendations for a seamstress. You can also look at reviews of other stores' alterations departments, and then call to ask if they alter dresses from other stores. Some will and others won't.
  
  ETA: I bought my dress from a shop that doesn't offer alterations, so I found an independent seamstress who works out of her home. It's worked out really well for me.
