Paying for parking vs providing transportation

Our venue has a paid parking lot (located in a city without much public transportation) but a majority of our guests will be from out of town. We were thinking of just hiring transportation to shuttle people from the hotel block to the venue and back but not paying for guest parking at the venue. Is this ok? The thought being that because nearly everyone will be from out of town they will likely stay in the hotel and this way we make sure no has to drive after drinking. I dont want to be rude to people who decide not to stay in the hotel block, but that is their choice and they wouldn't have to pay for parking if they didnt want to drive themselves. Is that rude?

Re: Paying for parking vs providing transportation

  • I'm always used to paying for my parking when I drive in the city and would never expect the B&G to pay for that. So I think you're good to go by just providing transportation.
  • Agree with NYCMercedes.  When I find out that there is transportation to and from a hotel, I'm inclined to book the hotel even if I just live an hour away.  It's very generous of couples to provide the transportation for the safety and enjoyment of their guests.

  • I would simply include the information on an invite insert and on the wedding website. I'd probably do it as part of providing directions.

"For your convenience, we're providing a shuttle from Hotel X to and from the venue at intervals throughout the night. If you prefer to drive yourself, the venue is located at 100 Wedding St, Weddingville, USA. Take exit 4 off Highway 5, and bear right. The venue is located about 3 miles up the street on the left. There is a parking lot directly across the street for $20 for the evening. Street parking is free, but very limited and unreliable."
  • You're not required to pay for any parking or transportation, so it would be generous to offer a shuttle if that's best for the majority of your guests. If you choose that option, I second @MandyMost's suggestion to let your guests know that the shuttle will be available.
