Wedding Woes

Morning

I think I'm going to have DH build me a riser for my desk to make it a standing desk.  I'd just need space for my monitors, keyboard, and mousepad. I've been thinking about this for awhile, but I just read a study (like the 20th one I've read) about how sitting is basically killing you and I think I just need to go for the standing desk.

I'm taking Monday afternoon off and DH and I are going to get massages and lunch for his bday.  :)

I really, really don't care much about the deflated football scandal (that did affect my home team), but there are some great memes and jokes out there about it.

Re: Morning

  • I have someone coming to quote painting the first floor ceiling.  Today's other big plans are to clean out the underwear drawers. It's raining and I have 3 kids with nothing to do.  I need to think quick, but I really don't want to.

  • I need to do some organizing in our room, DefConn's room, and the kitchen.  We haven't really done much organizing since we moved in and it's needed.  We have to make better use of our launtry room space.  I kind of want a pull down table type thing so I can fold clothes in there.

Since the weather has been milder lately, I'm all about projects.  DH did recaulk the master bath because there was a toilet overflow situation and it was clear that recaulking was needed.  I cannot wait until we can redo the whole thing.  That's a couple years off.
  • the drive was a bitch.
I dropped a rather miserable red-blotchy buffy off @ daycare this morning (and assured them it wasn't contagious)--steroids for a while.

I am working on Friday, which doesn't give me warm fuzzies either.
But I seem *knocking on wood and crossing my fingers* to have knocked the 3 day migraine out for the moment.

  • I've had a pretty crappy weekend/start of the week.  BUT I'm here and ready to just keep marching forward.

House news:  Apparently everyone hates the carpet (shocking) and can't see past it, so we're getting quotes on recarpeting because we'd rather wow the initial wave of possible buyers.  So...hopefully we get that remedied before next week starts---I'd really like to unload this house.  It's just weird because all I can think is "make a lowball offer!".  Seriously...but people will say..."I loved the house, but the carpet was ugly!".  Okayyy...last I checked, carpet is replaceable.  And honestly, we're not in the $$$ price range, so we haggle.  DUH!  But fine, buy the house with the deck that nearly sits on the back fence line---cool with me.  *mini strop*

    RANT OVER.  maybe
  • O-Face, I hate watching home shows because some people are like that and it is infuriating. "Well the house is at the low end of our budget, but this wallpaper in the kitchen is gross so it's a no-go!" FFS, it's not like the house has no closets or a sex dungeon in the basement. Painting and carpeting are the easiest things to change in a house. Demoing rooms or disinfecting sex dungeons are not.

I keep thinking it's Thursday. This week is dragging and I really want it to be the weekend. Actually, I'd settle for it being just Thursday. I got up this morning and did a new workout. I was walking down the stairs with DD and I realized that my legs were weak and tired; thought I might drop her.

My mini rant of the day is about DH. He really wanted to take DS to Wisconsin to see snow. Okay, so like a month ago we looked at plane tickets. No, too expensive. Maybe next year. Well since things are okay with him and MIL now, he wants to go again. So last night we looked at plane tickets. $778 later...he's going with DS. But earlier that night I have to hear about "we need to save" "we need to really be careful and watch where we are spending our money" "I see you bought something at Sephora". Well dude, I have been really working on the grocery budget, I don't go out to eat for lunch every day like he does (and he refuses to give this up), and the Sephora purchase was to replace an item that I buy like every 6 months. The best part was when I pointed out that we need to buy tickets for my sister's wedding in July. "Well how much is that?" $540 for all of us. Wow, seems like tickets have gone up since we talked last. I can't even. I won't get started on how he's bugging me about how much we'll be spending on attending the wedding. I have one sibling. Not 4 others like you who apparently are going to marry multiple times. Back off dude.

Okay, rant over. I feel good.

Honestly, I wouldn't recarpet unless the carpets are in awful shape. (I mean damaged/stained, not just some sort of ugly 70s shag). New carpets aren't terribly expensive ( depending on what you get) and you guys may pick something else that everyone finds objectionable. It would also likely take a few weeks to do (shop for carpet, have someone measure, have the carpet made, rip out the old carpet, have someone install it) - unless you go with someone like Empire, in which case, you'd probably be paying an arm and a leg.
  • The carpet thing is annoying.  I don't understand when people can't see past it.  That said, it may be because the house is so empty.  I know it's annoying, but it might be easier to move a few pieces back into the space so it's not the ONLY thing they see.  Our nasty green carpet showed much better with furniture.
  • Our carpets looked like shit in the last house.  We had them professionally cleaned and called it a day.  Did you have them cleaned before listing the house?  If you haven't, it could make a difference.  Our carpets looked great after being cleaned.
  • PF had her 4-yr well check yesterday. 31lbs (up 7lbs!!!), 38-ish inches, overall very healthy, took her 3 boosters with just a whimper, and generally a happy kid. Ped is a little concerned about adjustment to 2.0 but her recommendations were all things that we were planning on doing anyway.

Now I just need the kid to SLEEP. I'm so wiped out it's not even funny.
  • I think I'm going to be the UO here, but we looked at having the carpeting cleaned in our old house before we sold it.  We replaced it all instead, it looked great, and the house sold in a week.  If you have time to sit on it, then cool, but if you're looking to unload it then I think replacing the carpeting could really help.  It's cheap and makes a big difference, visually.  First impressions and all.

Get something neutral with a good pad, and call it a day.
  • We did have them cleaned. The issue is with them being worn and torn and also the dark green in the basement. I suppose we can also offer a cash concession with a value that would be comparable to a good advance on carpeting. I think that's the way to go. It all depends on what the estimate is.

I'm just over having 2 houses already. I have no patience. And really with close to 12-15 showings in 8 days with no offers, doesn't bode well so I'm willing to do something already.
