What is it about free food?

The director of sales offered me food from their sales meeting. So of course I said YES and rushed in there to get a crappy turkey sandwich with barely anything on it and handful of chips.

Now I'm full and regretting not eating the amazing wrap I brought which consists of zuchini, avocado, pesto and goat cheese! What was I thinking?! image

Re: What is it about free food?

  • I always feel like free food taste better than food that I buy, or make.

    Especially free pizza!

  • Free + food = I'm there. Unless I am allergic to it, you can bet it's going in my mouth.

  • Just wait 2 hours then eat the wrap!
  • I'm the worst with this. It's also why I gained 5 pounds over Christmas.

  • I can't even tell you how many lunches I haven't eaten because of free food. It's a problem but I can't help myself.
  • Someone brought a cake to work for my birthday. I don't eat sugar (for the most part) and I don't really like cake, to be honest. But I ate so many pieces that I actually got sick. And that wouldn't be the first time I've done something like that.  Free food is my kryptonite.

Your wrap sounds delicious. Can I have it? Fo free?

  • I organize a lot of meetings at work and I therefore also send out the "Hey everyone, there's leftover food in the kitchen so help yourself" emails...and sometimes the food will be gone before I even walk back to the kitchen from my office to set it out nicely. Vultures, man.

But then, I only order good stuff, so I don't blame people for rushing for it, haha. I'd probably be running for the Asian noodle boxes, fancy paninis, and cheesecake bites too. I thought there'd be a riot the day we did BBQ.

  • I hate crowds...but I'll put up with them to go to Costco during lunch hours.  Free food allllll ovaa the place.  Yes.

@shessocold Seriously! I've always liked it at restaurants but never crossed my mind to buy it. I randomly came across it in the grocery store this week and was like "holy shit I need this".

  • I'd still eat the wrap

The club is full of multi-millionaire and billionaires.   A lot of them own private planes.  Their homes here are the 2nd, 3rd and even 4th homes.

In the lockers rooms there are free m&m's and mixed nuts.  It amazes DH how much of that stuff he goes through.   I mean they eat a TON of that stuff.    I'm not even sure if they really want the m&m's or just eat it because it's "free".

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Free stuff tastes better.

I'm jealous. I scored a free pear downstairs today. Tasty, but now I want chips, cake, and your wrap.

unfortunately I think I have to chuck it. The avocado was on it's last day already a tiny bit brown and the large amount of pesto will have made everything soggy :( waaaaaaahh

  • I rarely eat unhealthy things at lunch time...But my office orders lunch so often (paid for/expensed by our regional partners)! I swear they are trying to fatten me up =\ I literally cannot turn it down. It's also a bonding thing, because our office is not large, when we order lunch everyone eats together and chats. And I cant just be sitting with their pizza/viet/donairs with my lowely canned tuna haha. At least when we order we generally pick what we want..so ive been trying to pick healthier options :)

  • Free food you said?

  • Oh god this is how I got fat in school. Reps bring lunch you can bet your ass we will be there. I went to like every meeting of every group even if I didn't give a crap about what they were talking about, all for a chik-fil-a sandwich and some chips. I will tell you though, after four years, if pizza is free, I will turn it down.

My university has free food all over the place. And on finals week lunch in the cafeteria is free. It does not matter that I packed homemade stir fry, I will eat gross cafeteria food because it's free.

  • It has no calories if it's free, right?

  • My office is buying pizza today. I'm trying to not be a fatass. :(

  • My boss and coworkers have discovered that the best way to motivate me (or butter me up so I agree to more stuff) is with food. Or money to buy food. But it's easiest to just give me food.

  • My laziness/cheapness totally paid off today. I REALLY REALLY wanted Panera's mac and cheese, but it's SOOOOO far away (like 2 blocks, in the snow, uphill both ways) and would butcher both my real food challenge AND my no-spend challenge. So after an hour of debate, I begrudgingly trudged to the microwave to reheat my leftover butternut squash soba noodles (which ARE delicious, but they're no mac and cheese)... lo and behold, I had taken so long to talk myself out of Panera that the lunch meeting in the conference room near the microwave was over and the admin was loading up the food (they take it near THEIR OWN desks where the greedy vultures who sit nearby gorge themselves). Swiped myself up a turkey roll-up! Only marginally breaks the real food challenge because lawd knows what was in that tortilla and dressing (although it at least looked like it had SOME whole wheat in it...), and spent $0. Winning!

  • Someone brought gluten free peanut butter brownies to the office last week. They were dry & awful, and I ate the entire thing. I share your weakness.
